Cabinet Decals

So I started stripping my kitchen cabinets down tonight and under about the first 50 layers of paint I came across some cabinet decals. I remember my grandma having something like this on her cabinets when I was a kid. Anybody know when this was popular ?
Anybody wanna strip the next 50 layers of paint off for me?

Re: Cabinet Decals

I dont know if it is like wallpaper or what, mine are pretty much burning up from the heat gun, but they are some kind of sticker. They had been painted over so many times I didnt even know they were there.
Anybody know if it was popular to put wallpaper on cabinets at one time?
I dont do much cabinet refinishing like this, I would have to charge so much that new cabinets would be cheaper, I am just curious if this was a fad for awhile.

Re: Cabinet Decals

I had some on a dresser when I was a kid. That was 1958 or so, maybe a year earlier. Oddly, it was a sheet metal dresser, with that baked on orange peel kind of finish on it.

I'd say 1950 's on those.

1st question- probably anywhere from the 20's to the 50's (as was already stated)
2nd question- no, you're on your own. Maybe you should leave the heat gun on it a little too long "accidentally", have a nice little fire and start over.
