Building Codes Book

I was wondering if there is some sort of book with all the building codes in it. I think each state has its own but I cant find anything of the website for michigan. I asked at the town hall it the town Im going to put a addition on a little house my dad bought and they have a book there but they wont let you buy one. You can only look at it in the office, they have it chained to the wall. I figured each town would have a book for any building codes they have and the state.

ALL the building codes? You'd need a hand truck to move that book around. Most states use the I-Codes now. If you do resi, you're mostly concerned with the IRC.

You can check which specific codes apply to your area by clicking on this interactive map: http://www.iccsafe.org/government/adoption.html

The book they have hanging on the wall is theirs. You would need your own of course, but you should get that one they have hanging on the wall, the exact one. If they say, "we go by that code book right there hanging on the wall" then your butts covered. Some places have their own codes to add too. Not sure what the protocol is with that. They obviously need to make their codes available to whoever is in need of accessing it.

If you want them all, for whatever reason, the CD collection is the best deal.

The trouble is, it hasn't been one book for many, many years.
