Re: Bridge Collapse

Yeah, holy crap! Probably made with Chinese steel, already saying it's not terrorism. I hope everyone survives, hearing some good stories currently, let's hope they continue.

It's a 40 year old bridge, doubt the chinese had anything to do with it. I've driven over that bridge a lot, unbelieveable it's gone now.

Re: Bridge Collapse

Reminds me of when the Sunshine Skyway bridge collapsed about 25 years ago (St. Petersburg, Fla). I had just been on it (first time in my life) 20 minutes before it happened. A barge had hit it. I forget, maybe 30 or so deaths, - - some of 'em drove full speed right over the edge (including a bus), - - just didn't see it in time . . .

Re: Bridge Collapse

Just as I was getting off the bridge heading south towards the Metrodome, Traffic was dragging as usual.I heard this rumbling sound and felt a weird vibration. I thought it was my truck going to hell at first, then in the rear view I started seeing dust rise, then the shakking and noise got worse. I had no clue what the hell was happing so I just kept going. I didn't even know exactlly what happened until I got home.

Re: Bridge Collapse

funk5stacks - A real sick political comment. It was built in 1967 using 100% American steel.

I went over the bridge about 2 hours before.

Lanes were shut down. Part of the pavement was being repaired. Construction vehicles parked in the other lanes.

The collapse was a progressive collapse from south to north. Parts went quickly and others slowly since some people were backing up.

It looked like there was some twisting that could have come from unbalanced loading. It was surprising how many cars were just sitting on the bridge abandoned. A school bus slide to the side and stopped. All the kids got out the back door and off the end of the bridge.

It was good that is occurred after the rush hour traffic and some of the lanes were closed off and traffic swirched over to one side.

i didn't say it was built with chinese steel, i was scoffing the fact that mickeyco said that, hence the smiley, sorry your bridge fell, it wasn't my fault, i'm in ohio, and i enjoy run on sentences, have a nice week in gridlock.

Re: Bridge Collapse

I still remeber when this type of thing happened in Connecticut. A tragidy for all involved. There are, unfortunatly, alot of things we take for granted during the day that you really dont know just how close to death you can be. Take going down the road driving side by side with a tractor trailer. At that moment should there be a blow out on the truck or your vehicle forget it. Yet we never give thing like that a moments thought, so just think of the poor folks on that bridge minding thier own buisness, just trying to do thier thing and WHAM. It makes you want to pray to God and say thank you for not letting it happen to me but why would you let it happen to anyone?
