Bidding Help Needed

Hi,

My name is Charles and I just very recently started my own business and today am bidding on my first job.
Here is what I am looking at:
It is a 4 Bdrm Home that is several years old in a 800k+ neighborhood. The home owner’s just recently purchased it and they want it looking like it is brand new before they move in, they do not want any skimping on materials or labor they want every inch painted including the Garage and the all the woodwork sanded to bare wood, primed and painted, including in closets and everything, The ceilings are 9’ high throughout except for an entry way where it has an 18 1/2’ ceiling. They want to use only top quality Benjamin Moore paints.
I have measured the whole house and came up with these figures:

1st Flr ~ 21073.2 Wall and Ceiling Sq Footage
2nd Flr ~ 9920.9 Wall and Ceiling Sq Footage
There is 1195’ Linear Ft of Base, Door and Window Trim
And a total of 20 Doors

After spending all day working on it, here is what I came up with:
Wall and Ceiling Prep & Painting Labor ~ 2 coats ~ Brushed and Rolled at their request ~ $21,695.8

Extensive sanding, caulking, prime and oil painted trim labor including 20 Doors ~ $3,383.8

Materials ~ $9,377.7 ( I also have it figured at approx 225 gals of paint)

Total Job ~ $34,457.0

And my question is; does this look correct?

Thank you,

Charles

If you are happy with how you came up with those numbers, then yeah, looks correct to me. If all your wages, materials, overhead, and profit are accounted for, then yeah, looks correct. Is it correct? I have no clue. If all your bases are covered, then you should be fine. Better hope this customer was pre-qualified. 35 large is a fat ticket for a paint job. Make sure to stipulate some sort of progress payments throughout the job cycle.

Re: Bidding Help Needed

How many employees do you have? What are they paid? How many days do you estimate the job to take? What is your overhead?

Are you sanding the paint down or should you use a heat gun?

Re: Bidding Help Needed

What are charging per square foot for walls and ceilings? What are you charging for each lin. foot of base and trim? How much per door? Not to mention you said the customer wants the trim sanded down to bare wood (primed and repainted). How do you plan to accomplish that?

Your numbers for the walls and ceilings are close (a couple Grand more with the numbers I use, but that's materials included). Your trim price including the doors, seems low (but once again I include materials in my lin. foot estimate). Also your material price looks high to me. From your numbers I figured I'd use about 100 gallons less paint than what you said (but remember my materials are included in my square foot or lin. foot price)...

Good luck!!!

Thank you ProWallGuy for your reply, Yes, I am pretty happy with how I came up with those numbers, hell I did it about 7 times to make sure.

Hello Gordo and thank you for your reply, Well, right now it is only 2 of us, but I plan on hiring some helpers if I get the job.
I will have 7 weeks to do the job and that includes some other work that I still have to bid on.
I was at first thinking about having a bunch of sanders in there sanding but now I am thinking of seeing how much it would cost to remove all the trim and replace it with new. It may be easier, I don't know.

hello and thank you theworx for your reply. Well I estimated it at .70 cents a sq ft (.35 cents per coat) for the walls and ceilings. And this may seem weird but I took the 1195 ln ft of trim and converted it to sq ft by 2.4" height or door casing width ~ 2868 sq ft and charged 1.85 sq ft for labor for sanding, caulking, priming and painting.
I guess I was going to hire some helpers to just go through and sand, heat gun it and scrape, I haven't really thought of it extensively yet lol. That is why I posted it here to hear feedback from you guys!
