Better Business Bureau And Angie

As we have come to know, Angie’s List has attempted to bridge the almighty gap between referred contractors and new business. The list is derived from applauded and/or reprimanded contractors. Angie’s List utilizes staff to support customers with contractor hardship through their Complaint Resolution process. However, Angie agrees they can’t guarantee any resolution at all.

After reading the Angie’s List FAQ’s, it seems they exploit negative users’ voice (reviews/ratings) to drive other users away from a vendor. This tactic leverages their power of persuasion to hopefully push resolution in favor of the customer. Of course, this only works if the contractor cares how they are perceived on the list and if they are in the “wrong”.

Has anyone had an incident where Angie’s List “complaint resolution” staff has outreached you based on a customer review? If so, what was it about and what was the outcome. Is Angie trying to replace or become a pseudo Better Business Bureau?

Re: Better Business Bureau And Angie

I have spent hours reading comments about other companies that sell my products. A very small percentage ever issue a reply to a negative comment. It makes me wonder if they are ever contacted!

Some of the negative comments are downright slander but you can not see their name. On one hand I am glad that my company did not make the list, but one the other hand I wish our clients would post some good reviews.

Re: Better Business Bureau And Angie

I have been on angies for about four years. they will rule on the customers side every time out of about twenty reveiws i have two bad ones from people i didnt do work for just submitted a price and they slandered me big time. Still i have an "A" rating and have been nominated a "page of happines" ( there phrase) three times. Even tough no money changed hands angies list refused to remove them. the customer pays your free who are they going to defend. they also sent me cease and disist letter threathning legal action because i put in my craigslist add that i was an angieslist member. When you do an angies list job you have to be very carefuul to avoid the nuts and thread carefully. basiclly they use our hard work to make money its us the contractors that make there rep but the playing field is unlevel.

You can provide your business info for free so customers can look you up. The mob, I mean the mob, no I really mean the BBB wanted 300-400 the last time I told them to pound sand.

Its usually like $325 for a year. But they will list you for free. It all comes down to what thier reputation is in your area. Around here they have done a VERY good job of convincing everyone that if a contractor is not a member (or really any business) they are the devil and will scam you. One of the local news channels has them on all the time and has all kinds things to do with them. I have to hand it to thier marketing department they have done very well.
