Re: Best "You're Fired" StoryQuote:
Man I love you! Well I love what you wrote. Last weekend My wife and I went camping out of our kayaks with another couple. We get along great with these two but there are alot of differences between us and them. Not a problem always roll with them. It's not easy finding couples that like to white water, we are glad we have them. But like your friend this guy is on unemployment right now and has been all winter. The subject comes up during cocktail hour at camp and he proceeds to tell me that the next job may want to work him 6 / 10s. From nothing to 60 hrs a week. That seems like great news to me. But he is saying how he might turn it down. Doesn't want to be tied to a job for that long. He could collect unemployment till Feb bla bla bla. Here I am out in the one element that sooths me. Fire pit, trees, river, booze, friends. And I wanna lay into this guy with passion. I just told him he should understand who he is talking to. My wife and I are both self employed and pray that the universe will continue to present us with the opportunity to work. There is no government hand out for us when the work stops. Then I changed the subject. Like the last half of your post I want the friendship more than I want to prove a point. I love these people but wow what core difference! |

Re: Best "You're Fired" Story
yep, i agree 100% Gus - 110% - I know exactly how you feel ... sometimes you have to put it like that to your friends - because they won't understand where you're coming from at all.
And like you say, it's that "core" difference in attitude and outlook. As for the guys that maybe went on it once or twice - as a last resort or just didn't know what else to do ... I can excuse that, and shouldn't deem that as laziness. It's the guys like my friend --- and like your friend Gus --- who get "picky" once they are on unemployment ... that's I guess what really gets me. Me? I don't need it. Never will. Hell, give me a mop at the local Home Depot. Then give me another 6 months and I'll be store manager. If I like it, give me another year and I'll become a regional manager. I'll do it out of spite too - for no other reason than the fact that I like to "climb ladders". welp, i gotta go figure out how to make some money --- or else I will be mopping floors at Home Depot.

Re: Best "You're Fired" Story
The part I left out was when he was telling me how he has been busting his ass for so long that it is time to relax a little bit. That is when I thought I was gonna lose it.
Hell the guy is almost ten years younger than I am. ![]() I don't want to tell you about another friend that is on "disability". ![]() Cracker please

Re: Best "You're Fired" Story
We're still talking about controlling emotions correct? I'm just pointing out you seem to be telling him that he can't control his emotions and I'm saying none of us can control our emotions 100% of the time. I don't condone what heritage did, nor do I condone what Gus' buddy is doing or your buddy.

I often meet people who tell me how they wish they could do what I do. Every time, I encourage them to go for it. Strangely ( ) they never do*. So many people are risk-averse, it's astounding.*Well, on second thought, almost never. I have helped a number of others get their business started up. |

Re: Best "You're Fired" Story
The only job I got fired from was working with my step dad in 1975, we were building a turkey barn in ND, just happened that the HO was celebrating 50th wedding anniversery
. I got about an hours sleep that night and had to nail steel on the side walls next morning ..........I made one trip around the building with one row of nails by noon..........actually think I was making too much noise for him cause he made it to the hotel about the same time I did and not in any better shape but I got canned. I was rehired two days later.I have fired two guys, both for not showing up on time, leaving early, or not showing at all. They were both good workers when they were at work. I just told them I can't operate like that and said good-bye and good luck. |
