Re: Best Tool Companies

Not much to offer, but here's what I've found. Most manufacturers make something that is the best there is. Figuring out who makes the best this or that specific tool is the tough part. That's why I'm not big on sticking with any single brand. It gets worse though, there's a difference between the best and the best for your purposes. No point in hoping for luck in sorting that element out, because nothing short of divine intervention will consistently work in helping you find exactly what works best for your needs. About the only halfway useful thing that I can say with certainty, is that you're better off buying tools individually as you need them as opposed to getting some kind of all inclusive/ready made and packaged kit. I blew nearly $700 on a (brand doesn't matter, but everyone's heard of it and all mfr's seem to offer something similar anyways) 'kit' and after two weeks noticed that 1 item wasn't even worth lugging around, another was kind of useful, but not great at its intended purposes (the reciprocating saw, but I still reach for the corded Milwaukee when I really need a recip to do something right), two others that I might have used twice each in the year I've had the kit, and 1 that I've since used a rotozip to engrave my name on because of how useful it's been (flashlight with gooseneck). If I hadn't bought that kit, I could have had my favored drill sooner (a brand that appears to have been made by little gray fellas on their UFO), the best ever impact driver that never leaves my belt (one of those for my purposes items and not made by little gray fellas) and the flashlight from the kit mentioned above and still had a good chunk of money left over (to put towards one of those ladders that works properly on stairs so I can avoid recieving a Darwin Award for a little longer for example).

Shamefully, the extent of my actual tool knowledge of what is "good" goes no further than Craftsman, however, I would like to get purely professional equipment because I can't afford for things to fail on the job.

Advice?
In hand tools you can't beat Craftsman. They'll replace them forever, just don't lose them.

In cordless I like Panasonic. I've had them for a few years.

In corded power tools I like Porter Cable. The only one I didn't like was a 1/2" drill that spun with a spade bit & tore my thumb up. My fault for using a spade bit.

I paint mine orange for the thieves, but "Celtic Pink" would be awesome.

Craftsman wrenchs and rachets are the cat's meow...but screwdrievers, pliers and the sort....

She sure is....but if you want her to anything more than just stand there, look pretty and collect dust...well, that's an extra and I need the change order signed and a security deposit up front.
