Best Line From A Home Depot Cashier --

You'll think I am making this up...

We stopped into Home Depot today to pick up a few odds and ends, we grabbed a dozen 2x4s and went to check out.

The girl came over to the cart with the little hand scanner and using her pointer finger she bent over and started counting the ends of the 2x4s all stacked up...

... she got done and then turned around and looked at me and said...

"Do you have 10 or 12?"

I honestly just about shot Pepsi out my nose and had to catch my self from bursting out laughing in her face, it struck me so God damn funny!

WTF? You just counted them?

I couldn't say a thing in fear of what would have came out of my mouth... I just mumbled something like.. uh... ummm...

How she avoided the 7000 layoffs I can't imagine.

Some of my favorite things come from math too. Like you give your money to them and tell them what the change should be and they look at the cash register and are astounded that you are right. I've actually had then ask how I did that. Or figure out how much it is going to be including tax and having the exact change ready for them before they ring it up. How did you know that.

When I tell them it is 5th grade math........

She'll be managing the joint in another three months probably.

It didn't happen at the checkout, but I was recently in the HD, in the fastener section. I asked the guy who worked there where the wire brads were.
He actually said: "That would be in the electrical aisle".

Sorry, you don't have enough posts for me to see what you wrote.

Check out my born on date. Going on 5 years. About 2000 posts a year, with 1995 of them worthless such as my experiences at Home Depot.

Another story along the same lines that reminded me of the Bill Engvall "Here's Your Sign" routine:

Last summer I was at a smaller lumber yard that I deal with a lot. After getting my order/paying inside, I drive into the yard to load up. After everything is loaded up, I go to open my truck door and the guy points to the "DECKS Etc." logo on the door and asks "So, do you build decks?" - after a pause and wiping the dumbfounded look off my face I answered "Umm, ya".

Of course, what I really wanted to say was "No, the "DECKS Etc." is my cover. Don't tell anyone but I just bought a $1,000 worth of cedar to fence off my grow-op fields - Here's yer sign!!!"

I still laugh when i think about the time I"m standing in line at HD and one of the girls from behind a service desk nearby puts down the phone and asks one of the other employees "have a customer that needs to know what kind of hammer to use with liquid nails, what do I tell him?".
that had to be someone making a prank call, but the girl didn't know she was being pranked.

I was in a Menard's the other day (another box store chain for those of you that don't have any in your area), this particular one has just recently opened and they apparently haven't fully 'trained' the staff yet because the nice woman that was helping me find the item from their sale flyer I was looking for, started asking me questions about which products to use for what. It was about ceramic tile flooring-which I'm no expert at all facets of tiling, but have done basic tile work with nice results. I tried to answer her questions as best as I could without getting too bogged down talking to her.
She admitted she should know more about that stuff (since she did work in the flooring area). It would have been tempting to walk away, but she was so honest and nice (and she was polite and helpful in finding what I was looking for) I didn't have the heart to just laugh at her or anything.

I went into the Depot yesterday to get some PVC pipe and fittings. Got the pipe, couplers, and two 90 elbows (the only two they had). It was 1" pipe for GOD sake. The gal at the contractor check out asked me if I found everything I needed. I replied "Are you Sh*tn' me I'm at Home Depot where I get 50% of nothing".

Thank goodness for lumber yards and supply houses.

Sorry for the rant.

Hilarious!

My favourite part about Home Deopt is walking through the aisles and listening to the HD guys giving advice to the poor homeowners who think these guys are "experts" because their advertising leads them to believe that.

How many times have you heard "but the guys at HD told me..." ?

Sometimes when I'm having a bad day I'll make a trip there on the way back from work and do that just to cheer myself up.

I get that all the time. Big logos on my truck. "do you do decks?" "Do you do fences?"
Answer the phone in the office: "Stone Mountain Fence & Deck" Customer:"Hi. I say your add. Do you do decks?"

Duhhh, why are you calling us? Why not call "I Travel 2000" (they have a similar phone #: we get their calls constantly) and ask if they do decks?

then you go to see them. I've had so many clients that I meet, and after talking to them, I wonder how they have the brains to get dressed in the morning, let alone earn enough to live in a nice house!

I love how people think if they have something "installed by Home Depot" they are getting "proffessionals". The last guy I fired for being a complete moron and HORRIBLE at every aspect of carpentry went from being fired by me to being a Home Depot flooring installer. I can only imagine what the floor looks like when he's done with them. I'm sure I'll be getting calls soon for me to fix something he has done.

An important detail is being left out here....was she cute or no?

Because with the economy being what it is, right now I'm in the market for a cute girl that can't count.

I need that too. it might cut down on my CT time though, a distraction like that.

Of course, if she comes from HD, you better be able to speak Spanish!
