Best Friend Has Lucky Day

A lady customer whose (carpenter) husband had died years ago has me over there doing some remodeling (actually I start next week) and she gave me these two machines (well, the exact equivalents of these two I'm showing).

Anyways, - - I'm all stocked up with equipment, - - so I gave them to my best friend who's setting up a hobby-shop in his basement.

Lucky dude, lucky day, uh?? . . .

First is a 1975 Craftsman Table Saw just like this (but without all those fancy extras)

And second is (I'd say about 1988??) Makita jointer/planer (model 2030) just like this (the one on the left) . . .

Thats pretty nice of you tom, i mean freind. I tried giving a radial arm saw from the late70's early 80's away but couldn't find any takers. Not a dam thing wrong with it.

If you come across any of these just remember who your other friends are

If you're a real friend, you'll go over and open the pop tops on his beers when he loses his index finger or removes his finger prints.

I hope you're offering some free lessons too. What a totally kewl thing to do, TomR. I always knowed you was a stand up guy.

Damn, - - I don't know why somebody wouldn't take that RAS, - - they're handy as hell, - - even if they're just used strictly for rough crosscutting.

I have a 1973(??) DeWalt RAS in real nice condition, - - but it's just tucked away in a corner right now because I don't have the room (with all my other equipment) to put it to good use.

That particular cabinet model Uni-Saw I don't have, - - but I have both the 'Jet' and the 'Grizzly' equivalents, - - the Jet is my everday shop saw, - - and the Grizzly is set up dedicated for dadoes . . .

Hey Tom, that Makita jointer/planer is the first one I had. I used it for 10 years. It was tough to have a 6" jointer though. First thing I did when moved to the new shop was to get an 8", wish I could afford a 12".

Thanks, - - yeah, - - felt good to 'make his day' like that. As far as 'lessons', - - it may have been some years ago, - - but he was pretty accomplished in several years of wood shop classes in Jr. High and High School, - - and he's familiar with these machines

Yeah, - - I have a Delta (portable) 4", - - a Delta 6", - - and a Star 8".

That jointer/planer will be fine for him, - - he'll just be 'hobbyin' and 'honey-doin', you didn't think I'd give him something without figuring a little torture in there, did'ya??

If he needs to cut something bigger, - - he knows I'm just 2 miles down the road.

Re: Best Friend Has Lucky Day

It's good to be in the right place at the right time. Tom R - In your case, your friend was also in the right place at the right time...thanks to your generosity.

I am still kicking myself. When I was a young teenager, my grandfather past away. He had a garage full of nice older power tools and a huge amount of carpentry hand tools and hand-made tool chests. I could have had them all, but I was only concerned with getting my hands on his 1970 Buick Wildcat with a 455 V8 -4 barrel. I wrecked the car on winter ice about 2 years after I got it. UGH!
