Becoming A General Contractor (FL)
Hey guys, I have a few questions....
I'm trying to figure out what are the minimal requirements to be bale to sit for the exams. looking at this link (edit- I cant post links yet) Quote:
Where can I find more information with regards "1 year of proven experience". I work in an Architectural office, but my boss is also a GC, so I'm always going to the job site. Unfortunately, I doubt that I will be able to fulfill the 2,000 hours just counting site visits. Could my desk-job (designing, creating complete sets of Construction Documents, and coordinating with engineers and contractors) be used as "proven experience" too? thanks in adavance guys... |

Re: Becoming A General Contractor (FL)
I think the 2,000 hr experience they have in mind, is working full time on the project(s). Coming out once in a while to the construction site is not considered having any experience. Hour experience i.e Work experience is defined in the law by each state and are usually considered those who supervise, oversee, run the job in the field, etc.
You have 5 year Bachelors in Architecture. "Could my desk-job (designing, creating complete sets of Construction Documents, and coordinating with engineers and contractors) be used as "proven experience" too?" What do you think? They asking to prove 2,000 hr experience, thats working full time for a little over a year. On the small project that is just enough time to learn the basic things, how things work, scheduling, etc. it takes allot more to become a successful GC. Take your time, get your feet wet, and see if this is for you. I met quiet a few who all of a sudden became GC and went bankrupt within 1-2 years. I said it before here someplace, in any trade, no matter what you do, it is a long way up, but it is a quick way down. Good luck to you
