BBB On Customers

Another thread mentioned that it would be nice to have a BBB directed towards customers.
I wonder if such a thing could be possible.
Like a website that was seperated by state and city and such.
Contractors can tell their side of the story and clients could too.
What could be the implications?
Is this a case of "careful what you wish for"?

any ideas?
Is it already out there?

Yes, its already out there. I used to have the site bookmarked, but its lost since the hard drive crash. It was free to register and join, to view the forum and whatnot, but for some reason, I could never successfully log in to the site. If I recall/find it again, I'll post it.

Re: BBB On Customers

I would like to see something like that. At least then it would be public for both sides. Although I would think you would have to make sure that it was limited to just the issue against the contractor, the contractors side and maybe the customers rebuttal. Also that way if there was a issue anybody looking to use the contractor could make their own judgement of how valid the issue was and then if they went ahead with him would be more forwarned and shouldn't have much of a area to complain if they got burned themselves.

It does look like the builder deserves it though.

Re: BBB On Customers

As I said in the other thread those sites all get shut down by law suits. There have been quite a few. Also you can use a simple credit check to see if the guy has a problem paying bills.

KB Homes? I doubt it. They are as good a builder as anybody. Every major builder seems to have a wacko site just like this one where people go to grind their axes on them.

Woodhaven Homes
http://www.geocities.com/sahm2three/Woodhaven.html

Kimball Homes
http://www.hobb.org/kimball/index.shtml

There are hundreds of them, they come and go as the builders most likely sue the homeowners for defamation of character and they have to take them down if they are unsubstantiated.

The point is these BBB type sites to rate a consumer or contract end up becoming sounding boards for nut jobs.

Plus the fact that the more business you generate, the more complaints you get. Doesn't mean your really bad.

That's a good point. You do enough business and the statistics prove you are going to eventually get you some bad press.

Re: BBB On Customers

I would think for it to be successful you would have to script the responses. Instead of giving the contractor the ability to "go off" by allowing long text responses.. it could be rate customer from 1-5 in the following categories..
Timely payments
etc..etc.. then allow them to give an overall rating. Then you make it a pay for use site to stop (minimize) any spamming / slandering. Only paid subscriptions would be allowed to view / search.. of course this would have to be after a free trial period. Possibly even a method to prove status as a contractor.
As mentioned - there are a million ways to deliver a project like this.. but there is going to be some large up front costs with legal implications.
I find it highly unlikely that it would ever become truly beneficial to contractors as a paid site. As I've mentioned earlier - there aren't many home owners that will have a project done for them often enough by a contractor that is subscribed to the site. Pretty slim chance honestly.

Thanks Spec!

I joined because there are a few customers I really want to warn people about

I tried listing Smith, Martinez and a few other commoe names and had no lisings for Houston?? Guess people have to find out about it for it to be effective.

Sounds like a scam to me. $3 to register and then get no info? Plus $3 if you want to post a rebuttal to something someone might have said about you? How can possibly be fair, or even legal?

It seems to me this site (clientcheck) is far better geared for the benefit of "Professionals in the Fields" rather than "Customers/Home Owners"
