Re: The BBB.

Same here! Every now and them I start getting a barage of calls asking me to join again, and how beneficial it would be to my business. I belonged years ago, but I think the price is way to high for what little you actually get. It's almost like a "members only" club, pay your money and you belong. It does allow you to use the BBB logo in "off-line" advertising if you are a member in good standing. My opinion is, if you are a good conciencious contractor, you would never need the BBB, your work and reputation will speak for itself.

From what I have heard, your record, if available, is accessable to anyone whether your a member or not, the only difference it the line that gives your BBB member status. If you have a good record, it shows that, if you have any dings, it shows that too.

Re: The BBB.

It depends upon your area... My area its like $300 a year... And the news stations have done a very good job of convincing the general public that if a contractor is not a member they are cons. Unforuantly no one believes that they keep record weather or not your a member. I gave in and joined Only reason I did is so I could put the logo on stuff so people will stop gasping when you say no when they ask you if your a memeber.

http://www.bosbbb.org/reports/reliab...?FirmId=100429 This is what a free listing looks like. I gave them my info and saved $500. Their salespeople hate it every time they call me and I offer them $50 a year (the price that I value their membership).

Re: The BBB.

I've been a member of the BBB for 15 years. It costs me $22 per month. It adds credibility to many customers, and we get leads from them almost every month.

If I viewed it solely as a lead source, it would be well worth the money. When I factor in the added credibility it adds for many customers, it is a no brainer and worth every single penny.

Right-o', firemike...

We have no need for the BBB...If fact, I would not like to be categorized with the majority of it's members in my biz!

I quit that nonsense a few years ago....

Some of the the biggest shysters around are BBB members.

Re: The BBB.

I also belong to the BBB. I don't use them as a lead source, nor do I really advertise that I belong. But it sometimes helps close the sale when you mention to a hesitant client that you belong, and have never ever had a complaint. Its a fairly cheap sales tool in my book.
