Bad Plumber?

Opinions please?

I purchased a new home last year, which came with a home warranty. Recently I found I had a slow drip on the hot water side of my shower faucet, so rather than do it myself, I called the home warranty company, who promptly sent out a plumber. The plumber fixed the problem, but the next day I noticed there was standing water in my meter box. I called the plumber back and he advised me to call the city because the most likely cause of the leak was on the "city's side of the meter". The city came out and reported to me that the leak was on my side, not theirs.

I called the warrantly company back to report this. They called the plumber, who told them that at the time of the initial service call, I was told that water was leaking in the box.

Now, I know for an absolute fact that the water was not leaking prior to the call because I contemplated doing the work myself and went out the the meter. Not only that, I routinely clean any leaves and other debris away from the meter box so that the meter readers won't have an excuse for not giving me an accurate reading.

My home is 45 years old, so I realize that the water line is just old. If the plumber had responded in that way, that would be fine. I would ask him if he might give me a better deal on repairing it. But the fact that he lied to the warrantly company about our conversations is just wrong and certainly unethical. I have made several phone calls to the plumber, but haven't had any of them returned.

Other than contacting the BBB or the state contractor's/plumbers board, putting an ad on Craigslist slamming the guy, contacting the city, or at worst suing him, what recourse do I have? I don't want to do any of this stuff, but I think he should be held accountable for the lie. I always do business with integrity. I always treat every person I deal with as I would want them to treat my mother.
