Attaching 2x4 To 4x4 Steel Post

What are my options on attaching a 2x4 to a 4x4 steel post?

Fasteners?
Anchors?
Adhesives?

Thanks

Well, that depends on what you are doing.

If you have a steel post and need to attach wood to both sides I would say drill a pilot through the first board and the steel then lag bolt to the 2X on the other side. Or use a carrige bolt, nuts and washers.

If you have to attack it from one side only, I would think an expanding anchor might work, or lag from the opposite side if the bolt head is not a problem.

What exactly are you doing?

You can look at dynamicfastener.com for screws that attach wood to steel. If the steel has a wall thickness greater then 11 ga, you may have to pre-drill a pilot hole, but they are the same type of screws that wooden trailer decks are attached to the steel crossmembers with.

I generally use self drilling screws for this type of fastening. For a column with much wall thickness, you need to get one's with enough drill point on the end so that you don't run out of drill before you've gotten drilled clear through and the threads engage. I had to attack some Kindorf in a bell tower of a church just a short while back, and used self drilling screws with the extra long drill point. About a buck a piece at Fastenal. In my opinion, there's no quicker way without going to Hilti pins.

Steel is 11 ga.

Basically , I removed rotted 6x4 post supporting a beam over a garage and replace with 4x4 11ga steel post

The steel post are side by side a 3 bay garage, i need to frame an elcosure for my sheathing.

One of the best uses for Hilti/Remington fasteners.
