Asphalt Driveway

Area I no little about.
Have a asphalt driveway only about 900 sq.ft.
After 20 years of putting sealer on every 2 to 3 years it is starting to flake off. Just a buildup over the years. Does not look good with the flaking and the buildup of sealer is cracking. Know now I could have used a different type of sealer besides what the box stores sell.
Have stamped concrete sidewalks on both sides of driveway and like all of it to look good.

Anyway the quotes I get for about 2K say they need to put another 1 ½” of new asphalt over my old.
They all say my old asphalt is in great shape, just no way to remove the sealer.
Just seems a little of a waste to re pave when all I really need is a way to remove the old sealer and then a new oil base seal coat.
Don’t mind spending the money if I need to just thought I would ask for any suggestions or to confirm what I am being told.
Also my stamped concrete sidewalks are about ½” higher than current asphalt. New will put the drive 1” higher.

Re: Asphalt Driveway

The only thing I can think of is a sandblast company, quite messy if your neighbors are close by or a concrete floor grinder. You can get different stones for the bottom, either diamond or wire brush. I have one for when I do demo and have to remove the glue residue from VCT.

Good luck.....Alan
