Arctic Entryway

Am adding arctic entryway (mud room) to front of house. Using owner's own plans, which seem correct. Entryway is supported by two beams, 10' OC, perpendicular to house, outer end resting on concrete pier (each beam is a 4X12 sistered to a 2X12, incised .60aqh). Owner wants 4' cantilever on each beam to support a small porch, 4'X10'. Now here's the hard part. Part of the roof load (figuring 50psf in winter) is supported by 2X10 continuous headers extending past side wall tops, plus one ridge beam. The continuous headers and ridge beam cantilever 4' beyond supporting end wall, so part of the roof load is supported by these headers and ridge beam and part, through 6X6 posts, by the supporting beams (4X12+2X12). Neither he now I know how to compute this, but his gut tells him it should be no problem. Total addition size is 14X10 (10X10 room with 4X10 porch), Piers are set 10' from face of house. Without complicated formulas, any gut feelings here?

Re: Arctic Entryway

While I'm fully sympathetic with your quandary, it is above and beyond what is appropriate for advice from "some guys on the internet".
