Arbitration Hearing For Contractors
Today I had the opportunity to be a expert witness in a contractor-home owner dispute. Man was it interesting stuff.
Has anyone else been call as a expert witness before? The process was a bit strange vs. a court hearing. Rules where a bit more relaxed The arbitrator was very knowledgeable and new his stuff. Believe it or not I actually enjoyed the process and taking part in it. Any Court or arbitration stories?? |

I've been through both and if you are one of the two sides, I can tell you now...try to avoid it.

Re: Arbitration Hearing For Contractors
I do a lot of concrete work In DC and the case revolved around concrete work.
I also knew the contractor. So he called me and explained what the case was about and I agreed to testify after hearing what it was about. He did not tell me specifics just the Scope of work and the complaint. Then his attorney spoke to me briefly about my experience and they call me to testify after verifying my work experience |

" EXPERT WITNESS FEES: As for an expert's fee for testifying in a trial or a deposition, the fee should be based on - (1) rate per hour including waiting time in court; (2) being on call; (3) expert's experience and expertise; (4) out-of-pocket expense (such as travel, etc.); (5) the nature of the task assigned (e.g., if it requires painstaking effort on the part of the expert, this should be taken into consideration.)
