Anyone ever have this happen???

Saw this on another forum about a contractor going out to see about a new project:

http://glocktalk.com/forums/showthread.php?t=825645

I'm sure it was quite a shock to both. I've actually had this happen while on a project we had under way, but with a sub not a customer. Went to go for my tape measure and....oops....never swapped out when I got out of the truck (and yes, I've got a permit).

And yes, it's easy to forget you're carrying at times if you do it all the time. I would hate to have it happen in front of a prospective client though.

Indiana is CCW state, no big deal here. I've worked in a few crappy areas (Gary, East Chicago, etc.,) in NW Indiana where it does pay to legally pack. One has to remember when you have to cross the state line & go into the Peoples Republik Of Illinois to unload the weapon & put in a hard case otherwise you're in big trouble.

I had a customer that gave me a cash deposit over 15k once. Took my shot gun with me but kept it in the truck. They asked me about the siding product I was going to use so I told them "I have some literature about it in the truck, let me go get it". Wouldn't you know, they decided to follow me out. I tried to position myself so that they couldn't see in the back seat, but no luck. The Husband asked, "are you a hunter"? I said "no, but I can be if someone gets in the way of me getting to the bank with your money". He just smiled and laughed a little

Yeah, it's just interesting to see different people's perspective (or shock) even if you're carrying legally.

While GA is also a ccw state, I still wouldn't want to accidentally show in front of a prospective client. Everyone's got their own opinions/thoughts on the matter.

They can see it all they want after the contract is signed....keeps the payments comin' in regular

I think Vermont and Alaska are the last two states were you don't need a permit to carry a handgun. I bought my first one in Tennessee. When I came to Vermont I was pleased to find out I didn't have to do anything at all to carry it legally. I do live right on the NY boarder though, I gotta be careful about leaving it in the truck when I go to the NY grocery store. Up to a year in the can if I get caught over there with it or spend a fortune in lawyer fees and fines

You don't need one in many states so long as it is not concealed.

Yeah, I'm from NY orginally (syracuse), but I would feel kind of naked not being able to carry while on a visit.

It's funny, last night our Chamber of Commerce, Business after Hours was held at the local range. My fiance went and said it was the busiest meeting she'd seen in awhile. Everyone got the chance to use the range and they were lining up

And before anyone gets the wrong idea, yeah wer'e in Georgia, but in the 13th wealthiest county in the country according to Forbes or the WSJ or one of those publications as of last month I believe...so it's a bunch of rich rednecks (i can say that...I'm a yankee)

Thumbs up

The only reasons I can think of why anyone would bring guns with them:

1) In club/bar environment (for fighting someone?)

2) In house (for shooting robbers, rapist, etc.)

3) On street corners (high crime-profile neighborhood, drugs, gangs, etc.)

4) On the job (for contractors shooting illegals, etc. j/k)...by why I dunno why???

5) And other legal reasons I miss here?...like show-off to friends, get hooked with ladies for dates, j/k, etc.???

Let me first say, I am a hunter and I love to shoot guns and own a lot, but I have never ever understood why someone would feel the need to carry one with them all the time.

Hopefully you never will...some of us may not have been so fortunate though....don't want this to turn political...but everyone's got their reasons.

Well, I just checked. Alaska now require a permit to carry Every other state in the Nation now has some sort of permit for some reason or another except of coarse, Vermont.

Check out the gun laws http://www.cnn.com/SPECIALS/1998/schools/gun.control/

By the way J F, I grew up in Syracuse. Use to frequent the Dinosaur BBQ. One of these days I look forward to backing up another chopper to that curb

I grew up in Liverpool Jason, until I was about 15/16 (40 now). My dad still lives there...the only eating establishment I remember well is Heid's hotdogs...damn, now I'm getting hungry...shame on me.

mmmmmm! I remember Heids. The Dino wasn't around when you were there. I had a friend out your way growing up (we're the same age as you) name was Jeff Ianuzzo. Him and his older brother lived in Liverpool. Karate freaks!

I carry mine on me at all times. Its either on me or in the safe while i'm sleeping. And the reason I carry it all the time is you never know when you might need it and I don't wanna be in a situation where I might need it and don't have it. Its kinda like a fire extinguisure. You hope you never have to use it,but will be thankful if you do and its there. And if I lose a job over it oh well not someone I wanna work for anyway.

Yeah. Why carry? But I don't live in a high-crime area.

Dont have my CCW permit yet... But when I get it I will carry as much as possible. Why? If I am in the mall and a shooter comes in, I will be ready. If I am at church and a shooter comes in, I will be ready.
