aluminum soffit and fascia
Never posted before was just hopin to pick someones brain. A friend of mine wants to sell me all the tools to do aluminum soffit and fascia. I have installed soffits and fascia on houses I have built for the last 12 years but always just charged by the hour. I have been looking for something new to get into I am just trying to figure out profitability for this type of work. I am trying to find out what guys are charging for 16"-20" soffit and fascia, also how about large porch coverings. Any input would be great

Hello "Something new",
Just to let you know, this is "nothing new".
You will have to figure this out for yourself, nobody can tell you what your time is worth.
just do the materials math, guess how long it will take YOU to do the work, add what ever you need for overhead and submit the bid.
after a few jobs you will learn how long it takes YOU to do the work.
If you have been building for 12 years, you should have some idea what is going on.
If not, hire it out......................

Something New,
While we've got you here, is there any profitability in building houses??
(I might be able to buy the necessary tools from a friend if you say yes) . . .

Back in the 70's when siding was new and there was a boom in that industry, I took courses at a community college to learn that trade and to aquire a specific license for it. Siding does fall under carpentry and if you are a licensed carpenter then you are allowed to do this work. As far as the work goes, after a bit you will learn the 'tricks of the trade' and gain speed at it. Generaly there is money in new construction only if you have lots of equipment and are fast. You are probably better off to stick with reno work to start, but need more skill for this and be able to solve all types of problems.

I have been installing aluminum and vinyl soffit for years, and the tools it takes can be carried in one hand! What is this guy trying to sell you?
