Air Compressor Questions Paper Work

Guys,

maybe someone here knows something about this....

Im about to purchase a diesel air compressor from somoone. He claims air compressors dont come with titles. Is this true? What about registration? Im assuming it should because it supposed to have plates right? or no?

It is a 185 CMF highway towable diesel compressor. He said the only paper work is the owners manual.

I dont want to purchase a piece of equipment and later find out I purchased stolen equipment. I do have pics of the serial number though.

Is there anyway to check the serial number before i make this purchase?

Thanks

Rich

Well, I don't know where you are, but, AFAIK, in Georgia, they don't make you title a trailer, and the air compressor would be a similar thing.

Neither are the actual vehicle. I know you wouldn't have a title on an air compressor that is a free stading unit. Would the addition of large wheels and a trailer hitch require you to get a title? I would hope not.

I am located in NY.

I know for a fact, trailers must have registration, i have 1 for my atv and jet ski trailers. So if no title is needed, how would i have proof of ownership of the compressor?

Towable tools (compressor, generator, cement mixer, etc) do not require a registration or inspection in NY. The catch is they can only be a tool nothing else, no multi purpose.

So no title would be needed correct?

But what about proof of ownership?

Supposed this guy is selling stolen equipment?
