5'x5' Walk-In Master Closet Too Small?

I am building a small 1400 sq. ft. spec house. I had a heck of a time designing a house for the building envelope of the lot. The largest closet I can fit in for the master bedroom is a 5' x 4'-9" walk-in. Is this too small.

I need some feedback, especially from the ladies here. Is this too small for a master closet? Will it hold up a sale?

Width wise, 30" door plus 24" on each side of the door seems like the smallest walk-in closets normally go in my observation. I've seen all different depths, but 5' deep is among the smallest. To me, a 5x5 is still a "closet" and hasn't earned the "walk-in" title yet.

Keep the door all the way to one side so you can have an "L" shaped shelves configuration. For 1400 sq . ft. it'll be fine.

Depends who buys the house, it'd be plenty for me but not my girlfriend, we have 3 walk-ins, and they are all full of her clothes. A woman will fill any closet no matter how big. It seems like a decent size for a 1400 sq. ft. home, check and see what the other new homes of the same size, in the area have.

The condo I'm remodeling right now has a 5'x6' walk in closet for him, and a 10'x12' for her. They sacrificed a third bedroom to get it.

I was thinking of putting a 2'-6" arch instead of a door for extra room. This might help a little bit.

My spec plans usually allow for a 6 wide/5 deep. This allows for 2 deep shelves and rods, plus shelves 32 inches wide dead center on the wall opposite the door.

If you struggle with smaller home plans, get a copy or Ruiz's book "Building an Affordable House".

By the way....I try to make open houses on Sunday afternoons to get ideas....I bet I see something new every time we see a few.

If that's all the room you got, - - that's what you're going to have to work with. Use a 2/4 out-swing, off-center door and cut 45* angle slots on the top edge of the closet rod so the clothes hang at an angle one side and then just have strategic 12" shelving on the opposite side.
