13 Months For A Building Inspector Taking Bribes
Jersey City building inspector sentenced to 13 months for taking bribes
by Joe Ryan/The Star-Ledger Monday September 14, 2009, 2:55 PM JERSEY CITY -- A former Jersey City building inspector was sentenced in federal court in Newark today to 13 months in prison for taking bribes. Randolph Condi, 39, pleaded guilty in May to extortion. Standing before U.S. District Judge Stanley R. Chesler today, he apologized for his crime and said financial stress prompted him to take cash in exchange for expediting inspections. "I can't count the number of times I went over this and felt sorrow, guilt and remorse," Condi said. When he pleaded guilty, Condi admitted taking the bribes between July 2008 and January 2009 in connection to projects by a contractor who turned out to be a government informant. In some cases, Condi said he helped fast-track permit in exchange for cash. In others, he agreed to turn a blind eye when someone worked without a necessary permit. Maureen Nakly, an assistant U.S. attorney, asked Chesler to sentence Condi to between 18 and 24 months, which was the range stipulated in his plea deal. Condi's lawyer asked for less time, citing his remorse and history of working with young and homeless people in Jersey City. Federal judges are not bound by the terms of plea deals, and Chesler opted for a 13-month sentence. |

Hudson County? I can't believe it. Even working for someone in that area I saw corruption nearly every day. There's so much greasing going on it's sickening.

Do you have your inspectors license? I have the paperwork here but I've yet to fill it out.
