Quickbooks vs Peachtree
I've had Quickbooks for a previous business and did my own accounting with it.
Was speaking to an accountant the other day about setting up things for a start up painting co. and they seem to like Peachtree better. But it seems like everyone I see here is using Quickbooks, and I notice that several of you do your own book keeping too.
I've always believed what I see over what I'm told.
You guys advise Quickbooks over Peachtree?
If so why?

I have used Quickbooks for a few years and liked it. My accountant uses Quickbook programs. I did however look into peachtree and from what I understand, It provides an accounting system which is superb if your an accountant. Quickbooks is user friendly more so than peachtree but peachtree is better if you see a need to network and download records to accounting firms or any other bookkeepers you may have.
Use what your comfortable with and understand. I don't use either at this point, I use quicksell 2000 but that is more of a point of sale program.
Good Luck,

Golf Guy is correct. I use Peachtree but it can be a little complex sometimes. One of my majors was accounting so I am able to work through it but I still get irritated with it sometimes. I've seen Quickbooks and played with it a bit and would say it's probably best for non-accounting types or someone who just wants a simple way to keep books.

If you're already familiar with Quickbooks, go with it. I got Peachtree free and I got so frustrated with it I shelled out th money for Quickbooks. I love it. And I also heard it has something like 80% market share, so support and help is not an issue. Several accountants I talked to all recommended QB.
In Peachtree's (2007) defense, the issues I was having were compatibility issues with Vista. They had a bug fix, but what a PITA that was.

I have to say Peachtree is the better of the two options when it comes to construction. They both still have their limitations and if you're really interested in job costing you need to look elsewhere; however, if you are just comparing the two - Peachtree hands down!

True, true....but Peachtree handles contractors a little more gracefully than Quickbooks does....

QB vs Peachtree vs Construction Partner
My accountant recently recommended a package called Construction Partner over both Quickbooks and Peachtree. I haven't had a demo yet. But plan to see it soon. Doesn't anyone have any thoughts on this one?

Wow! I just checked out the Construction Partner and it is very pricey in comparison to Quick Books. I guess that answers that for me right now!

Peachtree is better. Why do you pay the account for his service? Because he is the expert. Do you let him tell you what is the best paint?

Go with Quickbooks. Many accountants are using Quickbooks including myself, a CPA, and I recommend my clients use it too mainly so we can exchange information with greater ease.
Even if you want to do all if it yourself and not use a CPA, I'd go with quickbooks.

Quickbooks vs. Construction Partner
Our owner is thinking about getting into prevailing wage jobs and our Quickbooks isn't really good for that. Does anyone know if the new Quickbooks premier 2009 contractor edition is any better for this?
We just had a Construction Partner demo and it is pretty slick. It does cost more than Quickbooks, but he's looking at it long term and thinks it might be a good investment. I like that you get all the modules for one price and you don't have to pay extra for more users. (with Quickbooks there is an extra charge for everything)
If we end up buying it, I'll come back and post about our experience.
