We are in Boston area need more like 10k to 20k links to rank for any key words worth going after.
|
I don't think you'd need quite so many as you think to pick up some targeted search engine traffic. Surely there is plenty of suburbs and townships within Boston that someone might include in their search for your services as well. I don't know though, I don't live there!
If you like I would be happy to analyze one of your competitors websites (with high search ranking)
I can break it down to exactly which web pages they have linking to them in order of link value, site page rank, etc... It's simply a matter of replicating what they've done as far as link structure.
SEOElite is the software I use to do this. Not something a contractor should rush out and buy but it's been very helpful to my SEO efforts with my own websites and has enabled me to garner several #1 Google rankings in highly competitive niches.

search engine marketing
i'd be interested in hearing some more in regards to search engine maximization...we have put money into creating our new website, and have decent placement on most search engines as of now, but would be interested in hearing how we can do even better.

I will give you a tip.
Do NOT post excessively in ONE forum
Move your posts around to different forums.
TOO many links, from ONE place, too fast will pizz Google off
Remember, Google is your FRIEND.
Don't try and screw your friends

I am pretty busy today, but use the word Plumbing more in your los angles and license description.
That sticks out at me.

Hey WestCoast,
Your website is definitely a great start. A few things stand out from a marketing standpoint.
1. Your homepage is kind of everywhere... lots of information all sort of cluttered together. In fact... For your home page I would probably keep your video as a focal point along with a short description of your services.
2. "projects page" I think it's great you have so much photo documentation of your work. But you really should have some short descriptions, before after, etc... Right now it's a bunch of pictures and I think most potential clients may not know what they are supposed to be looking at?
3. Too many images - The pictures are great, and some of them even offer very descriptive information but the problem is, this content is virtually invisible to the search engines. They cannot read the text on the images. You would better off to have the content from the pictures actually written on your page and use the pictures for support. This gives your site more content for search engines to spider.
4. Your Page Urls. - Right now your website urls are not setup to be very search engine friendly.
Example - Your "Services" page url is http://www.wcplumbing.biz/index_files/Page389.htm This is very non-descriptive for a search engine.
Something like /index_files/Redondo_Beach_Plumbing_Services.htm
The Redondo_Beach_Plumbing_Services.htm is seperated with underscores _
This gives the search engines a much better description of the content of the page then the "page389.htm" This is actually quite important.
That's all for now I hope it helps!

Thank you so much guys.
I'm working on fixing the great suggestions.
The photo descriptions will have to wait since I have no clue what I'm looking at.
Gotta wait for hubby to come home
Thank you so much for the file name suggestion carlsore..I have been wanting to change that forever but techincal support i get in India every time I call is so rude and not helpfulll..I think I finally got it...I can do that with every page right?
Doesn't have to say plumbing redondo beach? but underscores are important right?

If you want to be found for the keywords "Redondo Beach Plumber" then yes it's important to have the name of your pages reflect that.
Underscores are important to seperate the words. You can also use hyphens. - or _ both work fine.
Good Luck!

I have had a self built web site for 2 yrs now and it was the biggest waste of money to spend with DEXonline.
I recently decided to go for broke and make a major investment into my website.I know it can be a grat toolf if built properly.I am not a programmer or web designer I am a remodelr and I am good at what I do.So i figured its just like the DIY jobs that I have to tear apart and fix all the time.if you want your site built right you have to hire a professional.
Along with the design of the site and a new hosting service, i also hired the guy to do site optmization and web optmization. Its actually a rather small investment compared to what I am paying for an online presence with the top 3 online phone books.

Why fuss around looking for yellow pages I cant see ?
Naw, just go to the computer, and see a 21 inch monitor

Bingo. Having a pro web company do your site is THE best bet, it might seems like a steep price to pay, but it shuld easily pay for itself if its done right! More leads, more clients, moer work!!!
A good website that is easily found on Google will let you cut down on other marketing costs like yellow pages too. So many ppl use Google, if you're #1 on there, why sink cash in other things?

AGREED !
I don't know Carl, but I can tell you the man knows his stuff
My web site does real well for us, wouldn't wanna be w/o it!
Plus, there is the Google Local stuff too
You can have a number one web site, and not even be ranked in Local.
The Local Results are often displayed ON TOP of the web sites.
You MUST see out Like Carl that can rocket your web sites and company name to the TOP of both catagories.
I have seen way too many companied spend a thousand dollars for a quality web site with all the "gee whiz" technobabble gadgets.
These web sites are like a pretty girl that is never seen.
You MUST be on the first page IMHO.
Maybe not number one in EVERY search, but at least "in the race".
A GOOD web master/ SEO expert is a trade in itself, and are wortth every penny they charge.
YMMV

Perhaps another great way to get people to notice your site is to become active in the internet community.

Yes, posting on these forums will get you noticed by the crawlers like Google and Yahoo.
On some forums you can actually SEE their robots crawling.

Someone ealier in this post mentioned ditching the phone books and such...I try and tell HVAC dealers that the phone book is becoming obsolete, but some old timers just don't believe it. They don't realize that investing a small amount into sprucing up their site and coding the SEO stuff in will A) cost less than what they pay yellowpages and B) will help them realize better profits fast.
All I can say is that my generation Googles everything. From needing car insurance to getting a ticket for a movie - I never touch the phone book. So anyone sinking serious money into phonebook marketing better only be selling to a retirement community where everyone is 90+ in age.
