Historic hotel collapse

Had an old hotel collapse last night here in town. Place was called the Eggleston hotel. Used to be where the talent would stay when the Hippodrome was open.

Not sure what they were doing with the structure, probably repurposing, but it was in a "old and historic neighborhood" which means from the street it must meet certain guidelines.

Sad to see something like that go. Bet some heads will be rolling when they figure out what happened.

act of nature or was it an act of nocturnal demo-mice? Our fines here for illegal demo are 20 of the real market value of the entire site, or if they sell once the building is down, ALL the proceeds from the sale after mortgage and liens are cleared. That sucks.

Had not been on the site, but I had been by it precollapse. It had to have been a permitted job, way too busy an area, on a corner blocks from city hall. Just guessing, but whatever they did the day before must have finally given out. No details on the news this morning of course. If I hear more I'll post on it.
