Ah Hah!
Sometimes, a thousand words
is worth a picture.

Pretty cool, I like the @1839 better.
The Greek Revival and sorta Belvedere
stair case thing, fits that time frame
much better than colonial era.

I was reading the history of the house off of 1 plaque and 1 historical marker and 1 marble monument the dates all show differently. The marble monument says Ashley house 1690 to 1870. This is why i went back and corrected it. I wouldn't want to come off as perfect all the time. LOL

No criticism, probably 1690 one-room
added to, and up graded til they had a
big enough plantation operation to
pay for the up-scale store bought
Greek Revival stuff!
Still lots of carpenter-gothic, local
work showing in that trim.
Lots of history there,
long back story.
Will be interesting to see
what's happening inside.

Keep it coming!

Re: 1739 Yet Another Restoration Over The Past 20 Years.

Hasn't been anyone on site since saturday.
I don't think they are doing anything inside.
The missing staircases are off to the side of the yard and i hope they are to be replaced.
It was an asparagus plantation.
I searched the web for this home and found some interesting information concerning the owning families. Turns out my grandmother was a great neice of one of the original owners wife. It's funny the things we don't know when we grow up in a small town.

nope, hasn't for years.
There is a small 1500 sq ft modern brick home behind it that the owners reside in.

Maybe they hired someone to prop up the porch roof for now and that's all. You might want to knock on there door and see what there doing with the old place. You just might find yourself doing a preservation project.

Everything you need to know is in the preservation briefs. Almost anything can be fixed.

Two key ideals in preservation:

Fix first.

If it has to be replaced, replace like with like.

We'll see soon as i find someone there. It might be a good thing at that.

I'm supposed to be scheduled for that surgery on 2/15 but i may just not have it done. I still have some pain in the ankle but dollars are more important than pain.

Besides i have 2 floor replacements scheduled as soon as these peoples Income Taxes come in.

How's your project doing with all that snow up there?

Re: 1739 Yet Another Restoration Over The Past 20 Years.

Now that's my kind of project.

As far as work getting done goes, I have one that's been waiting for me since last year. Before that it was sitting dormant for the 35 years.

Thanks for posting.

I've looked at the post and it seems there is a broken link in it, but I can't seem to see the link. It just shows a busted link graphic for a split second, then its gone.

Wiz, where did you put that picture? Is the site that's hosting it gone or something?
