Re: New Website

OK, I'll step up.

First, www.lotzrenovations.com

I'll leave plenty of room for others to comment and point out just a few things that stood out to me. The site is clean looking enough, but probably too much so. It lacks some kind of edge that makes it more distinctive. It's a template, so that's not much of a surprise.

That alone would be OK except for the other problems I saw. It is very weak from an SEO perspective with too many problems to list. I saw some stray code the designer did not remove from the template used that is further hurting the SEO.

In fact, here it is:

Code:
<li><a href="#">English</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Electives</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Foreign Languages</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Mathematics</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Physical Education</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Science</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Social Studies</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Teacher's Lounge</a></li>
                <li><a href="#">Parent's Corner</a></li>
                <li class="extra"><a href="#">Distance Learning</a></li>
Since these are technically links, it is conflicting with your relevance which is bad, especially when you figure it already has other problems.

Another SEO killer is a poor choice of page title which is identical on other pages. The only good news there is it has the word renovation in it, but that won't help much. Since you have no h1 (primary headings) there's no support for a hierarchy of information. If SEO was not a goal, then you're OK, but if you were expecting to show up in local listings, this will work against you.

I personally think it uses too much "scripting" which is most likely in the template. I thought it loaded slow, and that might be why. I would check the file size of the banner image (because of the scripting, I would have to dig deeper to get that info). If it's over 50k (that size probably doesn't need to be much over 20 or 30k), it needs to be optimized. That could also be slowing the page load down.

I'm sure others here can say more, but that is already plenty for you to discuss with your designer.

Re: New Website

I clicked on siding, and got linked to another page that looked like the home page, and no further info. Same when I clicked bath.
No useful meta tags.
I guess it would be OK as an adword landing site, but doubt it would convert.
And I've seen the same stuff on SM client sites too.

Re: New Website

First off....please dont take this as me bashing your site. I dont know who built it for you but they did not do you a lot of favors. I took a quick look at your code and found the following: <noscript><img src="http://visit.webhosting.yahoo.com/visit.gif?us1266360591"
alt="setstats" border="0" width="1" height="1"></noscript>

I'm not positive because I dont know all the scripts out the but when I see images like
that one it smacks of cookie stuffing. bad juju I'm saying thats what this is......

The image is grainy...at least on my machine.

I like the idea of collecting the email address....but in order for people to give you
their email address that want something of value. 10% off free report on how not to ripped off by you home
improvement contractor...that sort of thing.

What makes you unique?...Why should I call you versus calling all the other people on here. Make
yourself stand out....give people a good reason to contact you. What is your specialty? What
do you do better than everyone else out there.

I did not see much in the way of on page seo.

It appears to be a template that has not been cleaned up or tweaked.

Hate to sound like a hater but thats what I saw.

Re: New Website

Your webpage is a good start. I would add new content regularly. More information about what sets you apart would be good and pictures with alt tags will help .

Re: New Website

I agree it is a good start... One thing is confusing... You say request a quote but the Contact form is pretty standard. Do you really quote customers off a contact us form or are you just really trying to Contact Us for more information? Not a big deal... but without a more developed form I don't see how you can do quotes for products...

Re: New Website

the website has a lot of content on it which is usually the hardest part of building a website. So from here, I would highly suggest working on SEO... for starters, none of your webpages have meta tags... so read over each webpage and build your meta tags off of that.

Re: New Website

Overall it looks fairly professional but the grainy photos on the homepage seem to suggest they were borrowed. Keep in mind our potential clients are window shopping through the www, if a website isn't visually cohesive, they'll likely move on to the next.
