ServiceMagic...Anyone Else Feel Scammed?

We joined ServiceMagic a few months ago and already a problem...we were wondering if anyone else had similar experiences or if it really was just us...

We received a lead. The address listed was not a home address, but an address to a local insurance agency. We called the daytime number and guess what..it rang to a very irritated Insurance Agent who was tired of receiving calls for the so-called person who certainly did not work there. The night time phone number rang to a message that said "user out of minutes."

We immedietly contacted ServiceMagic and told them. They told us to submit a request for a lead credit which they denied. they said it was a good lead AND another contractor got the job??? So..we wondered how they got in contact with them since we couldnt. We understand if we lose a job to someone, but not if we can't even call.

Plus, they are supposed to screen customers...how could they be if they gave me completely false information and then claim someone else used it to get the job. I even acted as a customer and put in the same info the lead had to see which contractor names i'd get back...and it was just us. So who was this other contractor who WAS able to use the (false) info they sent?

I feel like since we hadn't been receiving any leads, they generated something to charge us with.

anyone else had similar dealings?

Thanks

CustomAir,

Please do yourself a big favor and search through the "Online Lead Service" forum. You will find the information you are seeking in many previous topics about the same subject matter.

Welcome to the site.

I am moving this thread to that forum right now.

Re: ServiceMagic...Anyone Else Feel Scammed?

I signed up with them for the lifetime membership, I was on a pick the lead you want and buy it, they changed the program to a spending limit but I was able to keep the original way for a little over a year, then they stopped sending me leads and finally canceled my account because I was not buying leads from them. I called and was told they could set me back up but I had to use the spending limit way of doing things, I have send a letter to the CEO that has gone unanswered, I will be filing a complaint with the attorney general in Colorado and see if I can get their attention that way. A nice class action lawsuit would set them right.

We do have issues with them but I set 3 leads yesterday that they sent me.
Like I sead.............They are not perfect but they are not all bad either.
Right now I'm more conserned with QualitySmith. They were our best source last year and we have only recieved 1 lead this year from them. I called them after reading that they may have gone under and they tell me that they are alive and well.

Good for you!!!

Now follow through with that, especially since you had a contract for a specific lead generation exclusively with them. Do you still have the copy of that original agreement? Does it state that it can be amended at any time without notice or cause?

Re: ServiceMagic...Anyone Else Feel Scammed?

So, I get this 913 area code number calling me this morning, where the hell is 913? Who cares, answer the phone, guy asks if the is Pro ICF Installations, my company...I say Yup, he asks for me personally, That's me, tells me he is calling from Service Master but doesn't know what an ICF is, I start laughing, ask him how he expects to sell me his product not knowing what my product is and if his product is even useful to me. Tell him I don't need or like his product and hang up

Thank God for free incoming cell minutes

Re: ServiceMagic...Anyone Else Feel Scammed?

I haven't had the same experience as the one you mentioned, but I have run into having to put in a credit request and having it denied. I was with them for about 2 months, received about 20 leads, put in bids on half of those and only got one job. My closure rate was much higher than that before joining. So, I canceled my account and am looking for something else. Oh, and I wouldn't recommend Reliable Remodelers either. Good luck
