Servicemagic
Has anyone used ServiceMagic out of Denver Co. as a marketing tool? I have been talking with them and they seem to have a pretty good package. Would like someone that has experience with them to offer their opinion.

Guess maybe I am the exception to the rule but for me they have been good. Maybe it has some thing to do with the type of lead I look for. I am small time just a one man operation, but they have been a life saver for me this year. I have no real complaints with them any time I have had a problem or concern it was resolved in a good manner. I am not connected with them in anyway other than being a customer or suker or what ever but thanks to them my business is growing and getting better all the time.
The leads I get are fresh many comment about how fast I was to respond to their request with SM. I have asked several and they usually say that they got 2-3 calls but no more. Many have used SM for several different things and have been happy with contractors they delt with. I have a few that have mentioned that SM called them after job was done to check on their satisfaction with me and my work and all around performance.
You will get like all of us the ones that won't return a phone call for what ever reason, or will schedule then cancel. Some are just shopping or looking for a better price. The secret to success in the long run is how you handle the leads it is up to you to sell the customer. Answer your calls fast, EARLY BIRD GETS THE WORM. Convince the customer that you are the one for the job and they should hire you. Good Luck! with what ever you try, SM will work for some and not for others. Nothing ventured nothing gained.

Mr. Handyman,
If you don't mind just a few questions about SM.
Did you give them a credit card and if so what is your maximum amount for them to charge you per month?
Does SM spend that maximum amount?
Can you turn them off when your busy?
What is your average cost per lead?
What is the average estimate value for these SM leads?
Thanks

How much of that is a result of the geographic location you are in. How much of your business from Service Magis is in Denver and how much is in Loveland, Greely, Fort Collins and Longmont? I gotta guess Denver is way different then working in those towns.

Service Magic Scam
I have been with them four years, but have canceled them. Know they are trying to bill for leads that kids entered and for leads six months out.
I tried to explain that they waste more time trying to convince you that they are so wonderful then give you credit and keep you as a client.
I'm done and I'm going to sue them for all my no contacts and kids that call in for leads. I got a hungery attorney that wants to look into the use of contractors credit cards and how they can bill you for a credit card that was expiered
Anyone out there interested PM me and we can get the ball rolling, what was once good has turned to S--t!!!!!!
I also here there is another company, probably ex SM employee's that have started to scam SM with hundrends of fake calls to prove that they have no control over what is a lead or not, nor do they care. They print money with direct billing of your credit card

A class action suit needs to be filed against Service Magic and they need to be exposed on a major network investigative show. They quite literally steal from contractors. They draw alleged customers through various internet sites, unbenownst to the individual. Then these people are bombarded with unsolicited and unwanted calls from dozens of contractors!!!! These leads are not legitimate leads and simply are derived from various engines on internet searches for people just browsing the internet. Service Magic won't reimburse you for these invalid leads and the fees are exhorbitant. My wife is a lawyer and she is going to talk to other lawyers that do class action suits. Please e-mail me at nocorenterprises@yahoo.com if you would like to join a class for a potential class action suit.

If you don't mind just a few questions about SM.

Yes they unfortunately have my card number, but that can be changed easily. I had to do that to keep another service (CLICKSMART) from chargeing my card after finding out they were a real farce.
They havn't reached my limit that I set for myself this month and don't look like it will be with things being so slow.
Yes you can turn them off at any time, I think there is a 15 day limit or any amount of days you want, but all you have to do is reinstate it for another 15 days.
My leads run from a low of $7 to around $35 so an average of say $15-$20
Estimates for me have ran from as low as $75 min to well over $5000
In lean times with nothing else going on I will run the min jobs, some have lead to some thing far better. A $100 microwave install lead to some more work once I got in the house and she asked some questions, like what else do you do?. Just last week a $150 job turned into over $700 by the time a neighbor came over and wanted me to do some stuff for him also. Not big money but sure helps keep the WOLF away from the door and it is leading to many new leads for work. In a couple months things should get better, till then I will take what I can get. This has been a great month and helps make rest of winter not look so intimidateing.
Much of my work is in the NORTHERN DENVER AREA
seems to go in cycles. Wont have any thing in NORTH FRONT RANGE then all of a sudden am there for a week or more at a time.

I hate SM and Reliable Remodle they are crooks! Beware and do a search on google type in Service magic complaints or Complaints Reliable remodler and you'd be surprised!! They suck! I used both for a few months and they send you bogus leads or dead leads with fictitious address. Some are ligetimate but few are. Do your homework and run their name through BBB and Consumer Affiars.
cheers,
T Hurray

I have a so so relationship with them. Too many just want to just talk or see how much they can save doing it themselves. I've considered quitting a few times then I get a few good leads and keep it. Right now I am on the fence about it. mostly just too many window shoppers who think I work for free
