If you are looking to do higher volume its a way to get more leads. You cant get discouraged when you get only 15% of your leads turning into jobs. If your looking to grow of course you want more leads.

Renovation Experts is very new for us so I can't tell you much but so far so good

Service Magic..Our close ratio is only 17% but the low low lead cost makes it worth it for us. I have 5 salepeople that I need to provide leads for.
Marc in service magic how are you set up. Do you automatically get the leads per your requirements or do get to view them first?

Re: Service Magic Question

Sold a servicemagic lead last night for $18,765

That's the first one this year. Kind of a slow start for us but we are picking up the pace now. Already set 91 leads in February. Not all from ServiceMagic. Only 10 from them. The others mostly came from shows.

My only point to this post is that you need to take the good with the bad. ServiceMagic isn't all bad. Good things come from it also.

We automatically take every lead. We set about 45% of them and sell about 18% of those. Still makes it extremely cost effective.

I have set an account with SM but havent accepted anything due to most of the stuff I here about them. I think its probably to high of expectations you just have to expect your closing to be different. We signed up with two places. One is all crap so far but we signed up with them in november and they have had very few leads. The other one we signed on about 50,000 since November. I am thinking about taking some SM leads but I want to see how the google adwords takes off 1st.

Service Magic sucks. The leads are given to as many contractors as possible, and 99.9% of time they want lowest price and great quality of course.

Re: Service Magic Question

I'm a tiny one man show in suburb of boston. I started service magic about 4 years ago; I remember paying about $2000 for leads, getting about $22,000 worth of jobs that year. I was very happy when, 2 years ago, I got my first service magic customer to accept my repair work on T&M basis. That job expanded over my head, so I called in my more experienced friend. He ended up working at that house for months, and getting neighbor after neighbor. He's still working that neighborhood like dominoes, and he gives me invaluable advice every week, so it's a good relationship, even though he got most of the money from that lead. For some reason I don't think I can get painting jobs from service magic, though I looked at one yesterday- I think I lowballed it, and he's interested. Service magic prescreens you for :contractor liscence and liability insurance; that's all they do for the customer. Licensing is hifghly regulated here . in usptate NY it doesn't seem to be an issue, when I worked there. probably the service doesn't do much for anyone who doesn't care that much about your liscence, so this would include most painters- and roofers don't need liscences around here. Woops, I forgot- the other thing they do is accummulate ratings and reviews on you- so AFTER you've done a body of work it's like a community of refferal- all I state when I first call the leads is: "please look at my ratings and reviews; they are all 5 star". Course I've given blood and sweat to get those reviews, and I can't claim to know how to make money. I'm a perfectionist who takes too long at everything. Also this year I got a lot of leads that led nowhere; only this week with the warm weather something real seems to be happening

OH I just realized something... m post above probably didn't make sense.

Here's a tip for you guys that Service Magic will fight...

Currently, they sell the program where you give them a monthly budget and they feed you leads.

However, the old program (which is the one that I use) - let's you see the details of the job without contact info, and you can either accept or decline the lead. Here, you pay a $20 monthly fee and only for the leads you accept.

Service Magic will try anything to keep you off of this program - but persistance will get it for you. By previewing the leads, I can truly zero in on the ones that are good for my clients...

This is the one that I do. I pressed them to let me preview them and the lady went to her manager and got it approved. Recently I was talking to one of the reps and he told me that I am a second stringer only getting older leads by not auto accepting. I think he was giving me a pitch but I wasnt sure.

hey plunkett, all you have to do is call a customer service rep and they will give you your money back on leads that have already been contracted. Just explan to them what happen you will get your money back.

Re: Service Magic Question

Adding to Damion's point:

When I ran Sierra (roofing.net) ... we ONLY paid for "repair" leads... cuz your AVG homeowner wants to believe their roof isn't shot... so when they self-select "repair" or "reroof" ... guess what.

So the majority if the repairs were SHOT ... and we paid less to ServiceMagic.... plus, as our sales process was hot (photos, multiple page proposal, etc) we had a very high close ratio.

Re: Service Magic Question

Anyone ever heard of "intent to defraud"?

Perhaps we should accumulate names, contact information, and real numbers to support a claim. I will be filing a complaint with the Denver BBB to document my dissatisfaction with SM. Amazing that SM has a glistening record when you search them at the BBB site. It's time to set the record straight with the public and stop the inside complaining, though I am happy to commiserate.

3 months: 9 Leads: 4 Bad Information: 1 Completed: 2 "undecided": 2 Tire Kickers. Scam Artists, not completely, but there is definitely something wrong with their system as the information is consistent across the board-some good, some bad. Buyer Beware!!!

What is the $20/month deal?
