Service Magic Leads...

Been with Service Magic for about 2 weeks now.

In the past 2 weeks, i received 4 leads

1st Lead: H/O doesnt know anything about service magic. He said maybe its his son. OK so SM says my next lead is free

2nd Lead: E-mailed twice, called twice, H/O never return calls

3rd Lead: Called, some teen answers, her grandmother wants work in her kitchen. She said its her grandmothers money, and her dad is in charge. WTF? Who am i dealing with? Called on Sat to confirm appointment, no answer.

4th Lead: Remodel a kitchen. E-mailed Twice, called 3 times. no answer

Everytime a lead is in, i promptly contact the H/O. Within Minutes.

Now my invoice with SM is $125 and i still havent been able to reach anyone. I dont mind paying for a lead where i atleast could talk to setup an appointment with the H/O. But for me to pay for these leads is total BS.

I give SM a , or atleast for my region. I know others had luck with them, some dont.

Conclusion: I think the majority of H/O that log onto SM arent serious. All they really want are quotes.

Referrals are the only way in which my business is advertised. It has worked for my dad for the past 20 years and still working to this date. I thought maybe I gave SM a try just for the hell of it.

Re: Service Magic Leads...

Service Magic is the worst of all lead services. I tried them for Real Estate and got screwed over big time. All junk leads....same types of problems you are having! Don't waste your money there. Grumpy has said he uses some other lead companies with success so hopefully he will post them for you and it will be a better deal.

Re: Service Magic Leads...

I agree, it sucks too.

I have been very good about calling the minute I get the lead and still nothing.

I think I have spent $600 without one job that I got signed.

I am moving to qualitysmith soon.

Re: Service Magic Leads...

I think when people deal over the computer they think they can get prices with no human contact? I have never had any luck with web found calls.!!

Reminds me of neighbors that see their friends kitchen remodel and tell the friend they would like a bid. You call out of obligation and they want to put you through the estimating process and you can tell they have no "real" intention of doing anything they just don't want the friend to think they couldn't afford to do theirs. Thats when I tell them there is a charge is for the estimate!! Suddenly they tell you that they will call when they want to do it in a year or two.. You can smell em after a while
Lead companies.......The customer will call 12 contractors and won't remember who was who by the time it's over??

Re: Service Magic Leads...

So far I've spent about $200 with SM. As a painter, it works real well. I find that these customers like the hands off approach. Go out measure, email bid...customer calls for work. Out of about 9 leads I've landed 3 jobs that have more than payed for the "advertising" if you call it that. I call all my leads right away....soon as the info comes in. I have received a few bad leads that I couldn't get ahold of, but overall they have been good.

What exactly does that mean? I hope you are seeing at least 10x the advertising cost in net profit and not just paying for the advertising.

Anybody else talked to senora Espanosa? She dogged me for months while I said No, No, No, Nien, No se habla. Never again.

Honestly, your better off building yourself a web site and using this BBS to drive traffic to your site. Most of you have links to your web pages and they help. But, there are more effective ways to get it to work for you.

Re: Service Magic Leads...

I haven't heard from your senora, but after reading plazaman's post about the quality of the leads I'm even more glad last week when they called me and I turned them down again.

The salesman kept trying to play dumb on the phone with every question that I asked him, such as "So I can pay per lead?" - "oh yes.", "well, how does that work? I understand you guys don't work that way." "Oh yes, we will charge you $58 per lead", "That's $58 for every one that I accept right, not $58 times each one you send me...", "Well you can stop accepting leads at any time..."

Jerks.

Ach, Sorry I was trying to show you what I'm talking about but I guess I either have to be listed as a pro to have links in my signature, or I have to make 10 posts first. I'm not sure which..

I'll post a bit and come back.

AHA! Now it worked.

See the links below my name? They point to my website using Keyword based meta tags. It's a lot better to use links like those going to your site instead of just listing your website.

Well, let's see. I had just one job turn about $1500.00 in profit in two days from service magic. With the other jobs I have completed, they have more than payed for themselves 10x over.

I'm beginning to wonder if their leads aren't better just for people like myself who specialize in one trade, and less effective for those who work a number of different trades or do large projects, i.e. remodelers etc. for whatever reasons. From this thread, that is the impression I am getting...

Re: Service Magic Leads...

I use renovation experts and have had great success. It's the only "advertising" I pay for and I get about 75-80% of my work through them, whats even better is theres no per lead charge. I pay 50 a month and get leads emailed to me and I accept as many as I want.

Re: Service Magic Leads...

I was with SM for about ten months. The first three leads I recieved were excellant, and I landed all of them. Then things went downhill, out of 10 leads I might land one. Then the last three months of my membership I would recieve 10 leads, of those 10: I could not contact 6 of them, after repeated trys, I contacted 2 who swore they never filled out a contact form, and were not even sure what SM is (liars), and 2 I went to the job, and kept riding as I was afraid to take the job (in the severe hood).

After thinking about it I figured primarily two class of folks use service magic:
1. The ones that think real life is the computer, and its a source of entertainment to fill out these "questionaires" when they really have no intention of following through. And I'm not sure if they know or care that each time they fill out a form it cost the contractor money. My best guess is that these folks are 95% in my area.

2. People that are looking for a good solid contractor, these folk do their research online, and SM is a perfect match for them as they can ascertain if the contractor they want at their home and whats presented on SM is a match. (3-5%)

Re: Service Magic Leads...

I to have had trouble with SM. Can`t contact people, people were asking for someone else, went thru the bid with HO`s and then can`t contact them again (phone or email don`t work), at the begining SM was calling meonce a week , usually a couple different people , but in the past 3 months not 1 phone call. I have had to call them several times to get lead fees taken off my invoice. I am looking into different lead co`s rite now. Service Magic in Michigan is not working out as I hoped it would.
