I'm interested in seeing how this is answered...

Handy, I never ask anyone to respond in private, I just offer it as a courtesy to those who don’t want to share their info with everyone. SM does reach out to pros with complaints and not only on CT.

To answer your question, you should get credit for a “skirting” lead when you received a “vinyl siding” lead. The SM pro can go online (or call it in) and submit the lead for credit. If submitted and approved during the current billing cycle then the pro never actually paid for the lead.

And that's exactly the problem with SM is that they are trying to act as a contractor but, not accually being one. You can't stand behind the contractors you list. But I can!

How long has it taken contractors on this side to find GREAT subs in there area? I know with full confidence when I refer or send someone that I know to a customers house that it's my name and I accept the good and with bad with that to make sure everyone is happy. Not that I've had any dissatisfied customers.

But, poor Katie is F***ed and SM's response is "were only an advertiser", but, "we do background checks". If I saw that on my local news, I would have been there the next day and fixed or replaced that deck for free! And guess who's name would be on the next nights news in bright lights?

You can do all the background checks you like it's still going to come down to the old mightly dollar to get on you that web site.

I'm done.

Well, what actually transpired after speaking with numerous people in numerous departments was this...

They STILL considered it a siding lead. ONLY when it got to the point of me telling them I was done with their service and cancelling my credit card did they send me a "LEAD REPLACEMENT"--and low-n-behold I got in touch with the lady as soon as I got the lead in my in-box,...only to find she has already signed 4 DAYS PRIOR to my call with a local carpenter who's done previous work for her.

When I called to say--hey,...Yes, you guys sent me a lead replacement for the 1st junk lead only to get a junk lead as a replacement, the rep. sounded like I should be fortunate to only be getting charged for one of the the crap leads, instead of both of them.

My question for you, SM SUPPORT--Do you sleep good at night?

I don't know if the sm guy is still on here.this might be a way to greatly improve your service

1. charge the customer a fee say 10 bucks, for this you guarantee them a contractor that has been checked out ( like you say you do)
2. this weeds out most of the tire kickers, kids, want something for nothings
3. you only send out the leads to 3 contractors max and give them 48 hrs. to reply. you really need to verify this you are selling a service.
4.whoever gets the job AFTER it is signed ,then you get a fee from the contractor whatever is fair for the size job.

This would work for me.

Re: Service Magic Exposed On Fox News Segment

SM sales guy calls sometimes and I ignore him. So today I check out this post and think...."hmm, well who is on SM in my area?"

So I go look on SM.....find 2 people under the 'concrete' section - after giving bogus email info but correct zip - run the PA license number for Mr. Handyman....see what his real name ( Roy Leeflang) is since he apparently 'does it all'....then google his real name ( I actually went the long way around since his name was on there as a contact but I'm not familiar with SM)......and this is what I get:

http://www.state.nj.us/lps/ca/electr...min_090507.htm

Excerpt:

The Board reviewed a Civil Action Final Order and Judgment filed on June 26, 2007 ordering that Roy Leeflang, Unlicensed, individually, and Know How Construction Company, Inc., are permanently restrained and enjoined from offering to engage in or engaging in the practice of electrical contracting or plumbing contracting in the State of New Jersey unless and until they are licensed to do so; are permanently enjoined from the employment of deceptive business practices, misrepresentation and/or false pretense, whereby defendants purport to subcontract electrical work or plumbing work to a licensed electrical contractor or plumbing contractor, obtaining thereby a permit from the municipality to perform electrical work or plumbing work, and then have unlicensed persons unaffiliated with the licensed electrical contractor or plumbing contractor perform the actual electrical and/or plumbing work without the supervision of a licensed electrical contractor or master plumber; pay restitution in the amount of $7,012,65 to Linda Montgomery; pay a civil penalty in the amount of $2,500.00; pay attorney fees in the amount of $10,261.00; and pay costs in the amount of $1,662.00.

:End

Why would I PAY a web site to be associated with that?

Probably you can see his page from here.....http://www.servicemagic.com/rated.Mr....11788358.html

He's been a SM member since 2007 - same time he lost this case I guess.

it looks like they did their screening 7/6/07 and not since......??

Good Point, Amelia...

Point proven-

they'll give leads to anyone that is willing to pay for them.

Case Closed.

I don't have all the info as far as what happened there, but we have a very experienced team that communicates with every state licensing dep't and sometimes we run into multi-state licensing issues.
ha ha a RIGOROUS background check. 10 minutes on the computer will tell ya alot. Like the contractor both of them took the money and ran. Sad
