Service Magic?
I'm looking to generate leads. I know this genre of post is common place on this forum, but I would relaly like to hear some details on your experiences with service magic.
I see the commercials on nbc all the time now that housing is mostly done with it's "crash and burn" phase. It looks that these guys are saturating the local market with television ads. Do you think this is more effective than a powerful online presence? I know if I was remodeling or w/e, the ad would have prompted me to call.
Thoughts? Experiences? Comments?

I appreciate it. I already did a search but did not find any threads exclusively about service magic, only posts with "service magic" in the content. I guess I'm doing it wrong.
haha maby this should be switched to a thread for computer illiterate contractors who want to navigate this site.

Well they are looking for a bunch of contractors to pay for all those commercials while running around paying for the privilege of doing free estimates for them.

I used Service Magic. You get leads -about 4 times a week which is great! The catch is, they give you the potential clients number or connect you automatically, they have them on hold.. the catch is, if the client says," Well I have changed my mind, we are having martial problems and have decided not to remodel the home at this time ( YOU STILL GET CHARGED BY SERVICE MAGIC..) that adds up quickly. it is not a guarantee service for a job- only a lead- out of 12 leads I had one pan out. good luck!

One of my clients (whom has given me permission to post with this account) is using Service Magic as an alternative to my unique lead generating service per his request. He was very impressed with their business model and while he is very pelased with the small bit that I do for him, most of his money has gone towards service magic.
I had spoke with a few representatives on the phone and email and I have to say that service magic is a really great company with incredible results. They have a great model from the consumer's point of view and should continue to grow at a healthy rate for years to come.
There are many concerns I have about service magic. I have heard many complaints, even from current clients of mine (past clients of SM).
I am going to start a thread about my experiences with service magic, and include my experiences with other lead generation companies, such as bidclerk and many others. I will include testimonials from contractors of all trades.
My goal is to make useful to those reading on the forum my experiences so that you can indeed avoid burning tens of thousands of dollars on unsuccessful internet marketing campaigns. I will start this thread soon, but at first I want to gather all my papers and be sure that I am delivering all accurate information. I will NOT bad-mouth companies that I feel are doing a dis-service to the contractor community, but I will create a 1-5 point system of each internet marketing firm/lead generation company that serves the needs of the contractor.
This information will be sold for $37 as a special report that will be updated as time goes on BUT...exclusively for contractortalk.com this information will ALWAYS be completely free of any charges.
The thread label will be: Lead Generation Scams: The good, bad and ugly.

Service Magic can be good for some, depending on your area, A good friend of mine using Service Magic to find most of his work, and he stays pretty busy. I personally have not tried them, But to each his own, Leads can get expensive and sometimes the quality of the leads are not very high.

Like PressureWashE said it depends the area your in. We've used Service Magic for years and most of the leads are good and they do refund us if we ask them to because the lead was bogus.
