I will continue my synopsis of the entire experience with them when I get to a good evaluation point...and post again my story.
ZACC, I'm a veteran of the SM wars with scars to prove it. They also told me I could only pause leads for 2 weeks but switched to 30 days later on. I think you can go to your controls on their website and pause them yourself.

Eventually I was able to pause longer, I think 90 days but can't honestly say.

If you are going to cancel I would advise you use keep diligent about pausing your account while you deal with their tenacity to keep your account open. Pause as long as you can, let it open 1 day and pause again. They will try to wear you down.

Also note that while you signed up for the Exact Match leads they are, and will continue to use your name to gather leads to sell. Someone searching your exact business name is very likely to be led to the SM site where they can sell you the lead, or someone else if your on hold.

You have to be diligent to make them stop.

Try searching your own business name on several search engines and see what you get.

Good Luck
Dave

Re: I Offically Love Service Magic And Here Is Why

I must say... Those of you that think buying leads now the way the market is on-line "BEWARE" service magic it is the biggest organized crime racket going on right now on line! I am so surprised that someone has not shut them down yet or went "Postal" on them... service magic will give you bogus leads... and if you have any on line marketing already, they will hack in too it! They will steal your name put their phone number on it plaster it all over the internet in all on line phone books, search engines and false web sites in your company name! Then instead of giving you the leads they will drive them to others that have been with them! When you try and cancel they will still use your company name with a phone # that is not yours! Your good name will be lost forever and your repatation with your company name will be destroyed! What they end up doing is putting you out of business! And also it seem to happen to contractors with a good rep and name... Because those are the ones they can get leads off of for their good and memorable name!

Trust me I have seem IT!

I work for a large general contractor, and probably I don't have any business commenting on this, since we don't have to use this kind of service. But who in the hell would agree to that?

O.K. you can pile on now.

I like that Fester. So, SM users sign their life away. Not surprised.

Most people don’t read their contracts before agreeing to the terms, me being one of them.
What SM is doing is unprofessional and unethical.
We as contractor work hard to build our business from the ground up, just to have a company back stab you, steel your clients and then sell those leads back to you.

I saw one of their ads on here once. Are they still allowed to advertise on this site? If so I think the administrator should be asked to dump them.

So what this says is that it doesnt matter if you signed their ridiculous contract or not, cause they do whatever they want anyway.

We were using both monetary incentive based marketing programs (InboxDollars and UPromise) and non-monetary based incentive marketing program (MyPoints ) to generate leads for our network of Service Professionals. Two of these sources, InboxDollars and UPromise, provide a small monetary reward for submitting service requests. As I stated last week, we understand the concern and frustration of these programs from your perspective. We have notified both of these channels to cease our advertisements. Inbox Dollars has been removed and we are working with UPromise at this time to pull down the ad.

An additional source, MyPoints.com, operates within a community of members who earn non-monetary points from hundreds of prestigious brand advertisers. In the case of ServiceMagic, consumers are eligible for a points reward only once. We have worked with MyPoints for several years because they provide a source of real homeowner demand. We are committed to being transparent with you and felt it important to let you know that we will continue participating in this specific, non-monetary program at this time. I relayed the information last week as it was delivered to me, and I apologize for any miscommunication.

As always, we appreciate the candor and feedback about ServiceMagic. Your voice continues to be heard not just by myself but the organization. We are always looking for new and better ways to serve our Customers and that effort is heavily dependent on all feedback…good, bad or indifferent.
This would explain why the leads have gone down hill, and anyone would know it, I have found SM to be the best of a bad bunch, but going this paying people to fill in a request for service is sorry.

I really hate to admit it as well, but I to sign up without reading details and investigating SM (Satan malice)!

festerized Is so.... RIGHT.ON!

And I like what he has posted so far on SM they are complete crooks and even worse! They have plastered my business name all over the internet with (their phone# number on it) not my number... Even in ads that I pay for like yellowpages.com SM has hacked into their system (yellowpages) and re-routed my calls to their site and are now answering the phone calls using my company name then selling my customers (my Leads) to their existing contractors as there leads... I had a customer that I have done work for over the past 20 years... My customer was trying to call me... he did not have my number on him so he Google it and some how got a number he did not recognize... when he called it they answered in my company name! He (my customer) asked for me and was told I was not available... but they (SM) could get him a screened contractor for what ever he wanted!
Later my customer had gotten a hold of me and told me the story... Mind you... I had asked to be removed from their services and I no longer wanted their services... So anyhow I called the number that I also found online.. Called it and sure enough they answered in my company name! I was completely floored my jaw hit the floor... I could not believe it! That’s Identity Theft! Fraud! So I googled my company name and found it to be under about 20 different web sites and address listings with "my company name" and "their phone number"! I have a nice web site and we were getting all kinds of traffic to it! I did not need their services (SM) because between my repeat and referrals I was getting tons of work... But like a lot of businesses I would like to grow and hire and have work to keep good men employed as happy secure employees...
I was told from a sales person I would only pay when I had gotten leads and that if I had gotten too many... Well then, I could turn it off like a "water faucet"! "{I should have seen that one coming! Good Line}" I thought about it and signed up but was very busy at the time and did not read all the fine print!
What a scam and I was scammed and flat out lied too and also flat out robbed of work! I am still finding out about or investigating! I have hired a Lawyer and made complaints too the Attorney General State and Federal, Federal Trades Commission, Local Police, Federal bureau of Investigations, BBB, ect... Also going to file an injunction! I am also trying to get a few of TV news stations to do a follow up story as well as News Papers! I am going to the same extreme as I feel like they went to, too destroy my business!
I also can not believe that SM Support guy is allowed to post here... I thought this was for contractors to talk amongst ourselves? I guess I will complain about that as well!

Beware contractors and home owners of (service magic) they will rip you off, then sell it too the next trusting poor sole that’s just trying to do business the right way with integrity!
We as contractors not competitors should seriously do something about this
unprofessional and unethical way of business SM is conducting... I thought yellowpages.com was a rip, very expensive... But SM will flat out steal from you in ways that are illegal, even if they have a seemingly full proof contract I have ascertain that it is indeed illegal!
You will not get anywhere with anyone or employee of SM about your concerns or needs, just rebuttals and lies period!
Thanks to all concerned and apprehensive,
Jason Bearss

I just watched a SM commercial that declared that all of their contractors had been reviewed , licensed, insured and rated isn't that a bit of a lie?

Very much so.

In MN here, my guess is they took a look at the license look up with the state, and made random calls. They also look at the BBB.
What they don't look at is how legitimate of a business you run.

As far as shutting off leads I think it is 14-15 days. But instead of that, just delete your preferences in summer use snow removal in winter use lawn mowing. Not real likely to get any calls. Although stranger things have happened.

lol MJW , I think I saw that same commercial today and I thought of this thread.

DBall, I am happy to hear that instead of just sitting here complaining, you are actually doing something that will hopefully make a difference. Kudos to you.

Re: I Offically Love Service Magic And Here Is Why

Shawn it seems that SM is modifying my zip code coverage areas.
I had removed a few zip codes 2 weeks ago. SM added some of those zips back to my account.
I have saved my coverage areas in word a document before and after that transaction.
Today I checked my coverage area again after receiving lead from a removed zip code area.
The coverage area list from today is much different from two weeks ago, what gives?
I’m going to compile a new list and E-mail this time so there will be confusion
