Google search for a contractor, bathroom - Contractor Talk - Professional Construction and Remodeling Forum

Let’s search for “Bathroom Contractors” (my profession) on Google, probably close to the same for most contracting businesses. 11/10/07.

Out of 10 positions on the first page of a Google search for” bathroom contractor “, 8 are Contractor referral services and half of those are Service magic. Service Magic has a Page rank of 6/10, I think CNN may be higher. Over 1 million people a month use Service Magic x $30 a lead x 4 contractors. $120 million a month, I tend to doubt it but how much are they making?
It would be nice if local contractors would come up in the search. But I guess you can’t blame these companies, because after all it’s a free enterprise society and they know the system of the internet and create many linking sites to come up in the search, but who has an army of Javascript writers?

and see what you get.

I actually come up 3rd other than the 2 sponsored SM sites
But I live in a small town and most of my work is in surrounding cities 20 miles away.

If I input that city I come up 27th behind my biggest competitor and 25 SM's and Knockoffs

I focus on remodeling as my keyword. In washington dc I am usually #2 for google local and 1-2 for organic listings. I love google local one of my best lead adversting. service magic usually doesn't even rank in the top 10

I pop up first in all of these areas for hundreds of keywords related to brick paving (in Dayton, Cincinnati, or Columbus) thanks to Result Imaging.
