Wood Options Over Concrete
Ok, I am new here and flooring isn't my area of expertise. I installed some BR-111 engineered flooring in my townhome only to be extremely disappointed in the durability (we have kids and a golden retriever). My question is what is my best option with regards to a wood-like product over concrete that is DURABLE? I'm not looking to spend a ton, and I will do the install myself. I am just clueless as to what to go with.
The rest of my townhouse I am very proud of, but the floors downstairs are just an eye sore. HELP! |

Re: Wood Options Over Concrete
welcome to the site, i cant recomend a specific brand, but i do know that there are plenty of engineered woods out there that will perform great, a flooring guy should be along soon.

look for an acrylic impregnated or ceramic finish engeneered wood floor. They can get pricy but worth the money They grow old very gracfully.

Re: Wood Options Over Concrete
Oversold expectations.
Sounds like the wood flooring is being wood. The wood you have is durable, for wood. Your expectations may be met with concrete, acid stained or just highly polished.

Re: Wood Options Over Concrete
I like the stained contrete idea.. sharp lookin floor imo... but if you're wanting a wood look, a product you may want to consider is Konecto(spelling?)
its not very expensive, they've got some colors/textures that look fairly decent, is pretty durable, waterproof, and extremely easy to install... just floats over the floor and the only tool you need is your razor knife. Also, there are some great engineered products... and you can also use any hardwood just glued down instead of nailed... |

If you like to wood look and want something durable i would highly recommend the Karndean vinyl plank floor it's commercial rated and it should do better than any laminate or engineered wood. Stay away from bamboo its way to soft.

Re: Wood Options Over Concrete
Magnesium fireproof Board (usually called magnesium oxide board) is combined system of MgO, MgCl2 and H2O alkali agent. The stable magnesium colloid is reinforced by middle alkali glass fiber net and stuffed by light material then becomes new frameless decorative material. It has the features of light quality, strong intensity, little contraction, easy constructing. Especially the unique waterproof, fireproof, corrosion proof and plasticity are better than normally used wooden multisplint, paper surface plaster board etc.
Five Main Advantages: 1. Fireproof 2. Moisture-Resistance 3. Heat Insulation 4. Sound Insulation 5. Bump-resistance and light Last edited by Ed the Roofer; 07-01-2008 at 11:35 AM. Reason: Deleted URL Link |
