Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
What is everyone charging per sq ft to install wood laminate (customer provided materials)?
As a general contractor, what are you paying your subs to install as above example? Are you including baseboard removal and putting back? Or removal and new baseboards? So far I have listed in the National Estimator for sub labor only from $1.09 to $1.81. Retail 2.00+ So my question is: As a GC what should I be paying my subs and what should I be charging the customer? |

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
My subs charge me $2.50 to $3.25 a square foot. Depends on layout, new construction, remodal, etc. $1.50 lf for removing and replacing wood trim. Tear out of carpet, tile and prep is extra also. Hope this helps.

Rhino, if that is the case, your leaving a ton of profits on the table!!!! It depends on the board width, as what I base my services on. I have done it as low as $2.00 a foot up to $5 a foot, with extras, being extra. I have been as low as $1.25 a l.ft. to $10 a l.ft. for trim work. I have been as low as .11˘ a sq.ft, to as much as $4 a sq.ft. for carpet removal and disposal. All floor prep is T&M. As I would hate to put a number on it, and it not need anything, or very very minimal, and you think I ripped you off. The list of extras go on and on. I could even nickle and dime you, if the job requires it. No job is the same, so there is no one price fits all, price structure.

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
Most (not all) wood laminates (engineered) can be installed three ways.. float, nailed or glued. I try not to post my prices but you ought to specify which method.

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
Depending on job specs, we get $1.25 - $1.85 sf for floating laminate floors. Any transitions, base/shoe, prep are all extra.

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
1.80 - 2.00 a sq ft all day long just for basic install. Tile / patterned laminate is extra.
I actually have a 10000 sq ft apartment complex to do with just basic install. And about 18 Bathroom of tile. Beautiful part is no door jambs to undercut. Just start snapping it in. Should be cake work. All trim work/door work carpenters are doing after the floor. My crew and I should be able to do about 1500 Sq Ft a day or more. |

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
I have seen laminate installed on a wall.
This is in a Thai/Vietnamese restuarant. It was a laminate bamboo, installed like wainscotting 1/2 way up the wall. It actually looked pretty good. The theme of the "decor" was bamboo.

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
Here in Omaha subs usually get 1.75 sq ft for floating floors. I charge 2.00 as I am the best.
For any prep such as undercutting, R&R existing trim, I charge 35 per hour. New base 1.75lf, new 1/4rd 1.25lf, toe kicks 2.50lf, transitions 3.50lf.

It takes 2 seconds w/ a jamb saw....that should be done by every flooring contractor....IMO We do only commercial and new construction and we don't have to deal with r&r wall base or any other trim... sorry, but I will not post our prices on this board.. |

With this board being filled with people from all over, it doesn't help much to know a price of a different market.
Do they have 3 bed 2 bath condos in Arkansas for 400,000? see what I mean? I'm all for the "AMAICG" industry standard |

You do realize that Home Depot is getting about $2.68 /sq. ft. in central AR for installations I hope, Rhino. Even after running all your numbers and deciding you can do it for less, that should be the starting point for your pricing, IMHO. No way I'm gonna underbid Hommies.

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
I am a professional flooring installer in Bloomington,In and I only charge $1 a sf. for laminate installation. The price can go up maybe a little depending on the area it is being installed but it would never reach $2 or more.

Re: Wood Laminate Install Cost Per Sq Ft ?
I also seen some of the other posts about different costs for other parts of installation so I will give you a more detail example of what I charge. I charge $1 a sf. for installing the laminate. I also charge $10 for every door jam I have to cut and usually $20 for taking the trim off and putting it back on and that is for all the trim, not a sf. We also charge $10 for every transition we have to put down as well as $1 per sf. for any subfloor we have to lay down. If some of you charge what you do than I need to move to your area cause it doesn't cost any where near that where I am from.
