Will Thinset Bond To Old VCT Glue Residue?

Looking at a small tile job. It's a slab, and the original flooring (circa 1960's) was VCT. The VCT has already been pulled up, but there is a residue of black glue. Can I thinset over that (I plan on using Ditra)? Or do I need to completely remove it? Or just run a sander over it to scratch it up? And if I need to completely remove it, what's the best way?

Thanks,
David

I would not go over the residue. Scrape or grind until you get to bare concrete. Then Ditra - then your tile, and if you want a really nice job, grout with Laticrete spectralock epoxy grout.

There are a number of thinsets out there that are designed to go over old cutback adhesive. MAPIE II AND CUSTOMBLEND. You can also emboss it with ardex featherfin.ish and then use your thinset of choice.

DO NOT DRY SCRAP THERE IS ASBESTOS IN THE GLUE

CUSTOMBLEND
Customblend is unmodified crap and shouldn't be used over cutback, Flexbond from Custom IS and works well.

We always scrap as much of the cut back adhesive as possible keeping it wet so as not to release dust in the air. Then skim the floor with ardex and set tile over that

Use Latipoxy by Laticrete.
As long as the glue will not interefere with the level of the tile you will be fine.
If it is that difficult to remove the glue then it has a suffuciant bond t the floor and the Latipoxy will bond to the glue like a MOFO.
Spent a little more $ on the Latipoxy and save alot of $ on labor removing the glue.
