Re: What's Wrong With My Floor?

Yes the sealer is a coat in my book. I have never understood why some flooring contractors wear their shoes when doing this. I always strip down to socks, keeps the grass or anything else from finding it's way to the floor.

Dave.

Tut tut, don't let your insurance or OSHA hear that. Non-sterile surgical booties are nice for keeping the outside outside and the tootsies protected, and homeowners just LOVE them.

Yes the sealer is counted as a coat. I'm curious, did you specifically request the DuraSeal product or did your contractor?

Re: What's Wrong With My Floor?

I'm glad the Drua Seal rep mentioned how oilly brazillian cherry is. That was why I was asking what kind of sealer they used.

Anyways, sounds like that might have been the cause for 1/8th of the bubbles. The other 7/8th sounds like they came from the floor guys themselfs, and their unclean ways.

I am smiling that they are blaming Dura Seal's chemical inconsistancy. Whats next, that floor cupped because of bostitch's sub-par staples/cleats? Ha.

It was the contractor's choice, Donedat. The proposal says 4 coats of Dura Seal Xterra, though. The sealer they used is Dura Seal Superbase. They never mentioned that in the contract.

The Xterra water based is not the easiest to use particularly on the gloss finish as it tends to show all the imperfections very easily.

LOL about your bostitch line, drunkrussian. This certainly has been a learning experience for them, wish it weren't at my expense, of course.

Re: What's Wrong With My Floor?

Well, DuraSeal is a great product. The only thing I didn't like about it (I no longer use it) is that it popped the grain too much. Other than that, it's a good product. All this could have been avoided if they had only read the instructions on the bottle. The finish itself is a good product though.

I beg to differ. Reading the instructions is the first step. Following the instructions is what separates the pros from the "I put 8 coats down and it still looks like hell" folks.

Knowledge is useless if it's ignored.

Re: What's Wrong With My Floor?

we had trouble with X-terrra finish. We went back over it with eon-70 and that stuff lays down great. All i can say about X-terra is its a big pain in the ass. From when you start mixing it up all the way till you think your done with the job....its just a big ass PAIN! The last time i used it IT layed down really good but it was not shiney at all. It was supposed to have been Semi, but it looked like satin, maybe even less shiney. So anyway exclude X-terra and you will be a lot happier.

Re: What's Wrong With My Floor?

Good to hear it's getting fixed. Could of easily been avoided. The products that we all use in the trade all have there flaws But, the products are only as good as the installers. This is a great case in point. I do have a question for you JT, You said your Contractor ... I'm guessing that you are the home owner? If so, I know for a fact that the home owner's I've worked for in the past would raise hell immediately if they saw me without my lil blue booties on a floor that was getting refinished. If you aren't, and are the GC ... then I would pay for there F'up. I know I wouldn't get paid. Hope it all works out for ya tho.

Re: What's Wrong With My Floor?

Used Xterra poly on Brazilian Cherry floor raised foundation, was applied great and and in less than 6 months old and now has white streaks around the edges of the board due to the movement of the boards. Could this be due to the poly?

You just posted on a 6 year old thread. If you have questions on your own floor, it's proper etiquette to post a new thread and not hijack someone else's thread. Also, since you're a newbie, go to the intro section and tell us a little bit about yourself
