What Is Waterborne Hardwood Floor Finish?
Waterborne finish is a high wear resistance floor finish that is typically 62%water, 4% solvents, and 34% solids. It stays clear and is non ambering over time. It is non-flammable, and chemical resistant. It has an extremely fast cure rate, allowing multiple coats in one day.
Waterborne finish is also a good environmentally responsible choice for your home. Since it is V.O.C. compliant it is recommended by the EPA. It formaldehyde free and virtually odorless. This all adds up to a much safer environment for all members of the family after the sanding is complete. Application is easy as well as cleanup. Cleanup is as simple as washing out tools and applicators with water. Typically with waterborne finishes most manufacturers recommend one coat of sealer and two coats of finish to achieve the proper buildup for maximum protection. Keep in mind that too many coats will result in a very plastic appearance of the final coat. In this case more is not necessarily better. As with all projects, knowledge is power. I hope that this article has empowered you to make a good choice for you and your family now and in the future. Happy Flooring! |
