What Is This Underlayment?

Looking at a bathroom estimate, the flooring has sheet vinyl down now. Peeling back the vinyl I find a 1/2" thick underlayment that appears to be sheet rock?

Where the water has leaked around the tub the stuff is disintegrating, wet and moldy, taking a knife and sticking it and digging into it, it appears to be sheet rock or some gypsum based product. Any ideas what this could be?

I saw it once while bidding a new cork floor for a client.
The lino was installed on a sound board type underlay that I though was sheetrock.

Either way, it need to come the heck outta there.

Prob'ly that old-style gypsum board with the black (asphalt impregnated?) paper that used to sometimes be used as sheathing back in the 50's/60's. Don't know what it's called.
