Ad in paper, join the Chamber of Commerce, go door to door, ad in phone book, door to door, signs on truck, door to door, get out early and meet the generals before they leave the job-site, go to the Chamber of Commerce events, and finally get creative like sponsoring a baseball team visiting the local Architects and interior design companies and putting your business cards all over the place, get a business checking account with a local bank that is active in the chamber, and finally, did I mention door to door?

Good luck.

Door to door? What do you ask the people? Never heard of this in my rural area but sounds promising. Thanks for the help I am kind of in the same boat.

What I did was go to the local county seat and get on their mailing list for new construction jobs. They will mail you a new permit list every month. Some even have this online. It is public domain so anyone can view it. You just have to pay for their office personel to mail it to you.

So, you get this list and a good map of your area and look for homes that are just being built. For the floor guy, look for homes the are at the stage of drywall and before. Have a flyer and business cards handy. Make sure your truck looks nice (get good signs for it) and you are dressed neatly. You want to meet the generals face to face because they never read the mail.

You could send out mailers but you have to meet the generals face to face.

Well, I used the list to find where new construction was happening so I could meet the generals in person. It helped me several ways. In using the list along side a good map, I got really familiar with the local roads.

I did pick up a few jobs from the list, but the biggest way it helped was just getting familiar with the different contractors in the area.
