I used the porta nailer I find it very good Not sure what modle it was,I was broken in on the malet driven one. but rented the air driven one and find it a lot faster and drive the flooring tighter.I find that the cleats hold much stronger then the staples. Just my 2cnts

I have yet to of found an air one that'll drive a board tighter then a mallet one. Maybe I'm screwing something up? Dunno. Just go to their website and get a refurbished one. 1/2 the price and comes with a warrenty.

Cdat ,I would'nt say your screwing up. every body has there own technique. Yours might be different from mine. when I set the boards with the mallet (I use the same steel/rubber mallet )and they are tight I do not need to hit the air nailer as hard, when there is a small gap I must hit it just as hard as the mallet driven nailer. I used them both and find the air ones abit faster,Just a pain to work around the hose. but then again thats why there are fords ,chevy's,dodges, Its what you like LOL. both beet the old way of hand nailing,
