Tile Removal Issue At Laundry/kitchen Threshold

The homeowner wants to keep the tile in the laundry room but have wood installed in the kitchen. The problem is that the tile is installed without a break between the laundry and kitchen transition. There is no clean break between the laundry and kitchen tiles.

I removed the tile in the kitchen but not up to the door jam because the tile straddles both the kitchen and laundry room. No clean break.

I have a masonry blade to cut part of it but then do I chisle the last couple of lateral inches remaining?

I don't want to break the remaining tile extending into the laundry.

Is there a better way?

Thanks

Without getting into all the cutting solutions that will be coming, one solution may have been to have saved enough whole pieces that came out of the kitchen, then breaking out the whole pieces in the doorway between them and then reinstalling newly cut tile from the ones you saved. The only down side would have been the grout not matching perfectly.

diamond wheel on an angle grinder. works every time. If you can't get close enough, use a dremel or a rotozip with a small cutoff wheel. Deal with the dust, its the easiest way to go without damaging more floor then you need to.

That's what I was gonna say, and wear a mask.

Remove the door stops, - - then you can angle grind all the way into the jambs, - - then just re-install the stops, - - voila!!

Snap a line

Angle grind.

Put a ceramic tile bit in your dremel to smooth out the line
If need be, stone file the edges to smooth the line

If you're laying wood, leave a gap for a T-transition

Thanks guys. Worked like a charm. Forgot about that dremel tool.

The painters and homeowners would have freaked out if I removed the door jams but that would have been my next option.

Not the door jambs, - - the door stops . . .
