Tile Job For Subdivision Entrance Sign

Hi, I'm looking for some help or good resources regarding proper installation of tile (granite or marble) for an outdoor entrance sign to our subdivison. The current one, which is just plastic, is mounted to a recessed area in the brick. It is going to be replaced with tile, with the letters stud mounted.

I'm on our homeowners association board, and got four bids for the project. We're trying to decide which on to go with, and to do so, we want to educate ourselves on what makes a good, quality, durable installation on this type of project. I'm trying to compare apples to apples as the quotes for the work are similar (granite tile, same types of chem metal letters, stud mounted, etc) but the prices vary from $1100 to $4800.

This is where I need to learn more about the materials, workmanship, etc. to see what sets one apart from the other.

We're in FL, where it is very hot and humid, with the potential for lots of rain.

Thanks for your help! If you have any input it would be appreciated. I'm also especially interested in what type of grout/caulk is used to prevent moisture from getting under the tiles too. Again, longevity of the sign is key. There have been a few done in our neighborhood that look pretty bad, uneven looking tiles, with caulk running down the tiles and I'm hoping not to have the same experience.

Thanks again for your help
