Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

How y'all doing these days? Do you guys feel the recession or it's just us tile guys from Michigan.I just found out that some of us are willing to work for as low as 1.25 cents a Sqft on Ceramic /Mud,is this hunger recession or what? What's wrong with all these people? What do you guys think about those who bid on jobs low as they can just to take the job? What kind of work do they do ? Are they for real Tile setters or just "let's call'em Hackers"? Believe it or not.

Save those and put them in another folder and when they ask about why he's 7/8 cheaper than your price etc... show them these pics, here is what 1.25 a sq ft buys you.

Re: Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

I've done my share of tile work, if price is much of an issue I dont even bother giving a price, I just walk away. No way I'm touching anything for less than $7 ft anyway. Wow thats some kind of nice work! Went crazy with the tile spacers too.

Neat trick. You break a tile, set it anyhow and just make another grout line out of the crack. Awesome.

Re: Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

The last tile job I did was for about 40 sq ft of mosaics and 40 l/f of pool edge nosing.

I charged $2000.00 including the epoxy thinset and grout, and I wish I had charged more!!

There is hardly anything in the world that some man can't make a little worse and sell a little cheaper, and the people who consider price only are this man's lawful prey.

Re: Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

Looks like somebody got exactly what they paid for. The cheap bastard who hired him, and the low balling hack deserve each other. If only the guy would have used mastic directly on the 1x sub floor....woulda been perfect.

Edit: My opinion is the cheap h.o. wiling to accept a low bal bid like that are undeserving of my skills anyway. I'd rather go out of business sitting on my ass, than to go out by busting it and giving my talent away for free. Hell, I can go fishing and not make any money.....sounds a lot better than working in somebody's nasty bathroom.

Re: Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

I've got some other poor craftsmanship pictures to share with you guys, this is a 1600 sqft Travertine floor ,whoever installed it did a poor quality job, the worst I have ever seen.I don't know how a tile guy could perform such a bad job. If you don't have enough experience installing ,Marble Granite Travertine Limestone etc. then don't do it .""The owner claims the whole job looks good except it's all up and down. and bothers him just a little bit while comparing his floor with others .He would like to fix it if possible"" .Some people out there do not have high expectations at all. What do you guys think about these pictures?

Re: Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

Yeah, you might be right about that, who knows. I've asked the owner once who did he pay to damage his entire 1600 sq. ft. Travertine floor, he didn't tell me, he didn't seem to be upset either, so my guess is he must have done it himself or he must have got a real good .50 cents deal on it (labor talking). Anything is possible. I wouldn't pay for such a sloppy job nor would I pay someone to damage it, that Travertine must be expensive to purchase, probably 7 to 8 bucks a sq. ft. or more.

Re: Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

I hear down in Teetor's neck of the woods guys are laying porcelain 16s on a diagonal for $1.50 ft, labor only.... I bet it looks muy bien too! It's about time to get out of this trade....between the hacks, the legit guys who are willing to whore themselves out for peanuts, and this economy, we may not have a choice.

That's hot. It'll be the new trend on craigslist...called the offset hack pattern. Love the split for the pipe hole, what a time saver.

Re: Tile & Granite Installation High Quality On CraigsList

Some very cheap clients don't care about quaility. We work on over 100 tile projects a year, most expect profection, but in some cultures don't care. I won't mention which ones, but its in their nature to want everything as cheap as possiable no matter what it looks like.
Don't worry about losing jobs due to a craigslist hack. You know what your level your craftmanship is at; never work for less, unless the job is large.
