Hi Taser,
Rates are different all across the country. San Fransisco will be higher than Miami while rural USA will again have a different rate than another rural area. If I were you, I'd find out what others in my local area are charging. Seems like the most logical step.

What kind of tile are you talking about, ceramic or vinyl? If it is ceramic a dollar a sq ft to rip it up is a good deal since you would have to chisel it up. i would guess you are talking vinyl tile?

Taser, you describe your trade as "pro". What trade are you actually in and how long? Where are you located, that can make a big diff in costs.
Do you not like the guys price? I'd be more concerned about his work than the price. What you need is someone that you can trust. That is the number one thing ask any GC.

taser, you really should be more specific when asking questions. How big of a shower? What size tile will you use? Using a pan or have to make a tile pan?

Those #'s are WAY too cheap for me. I might tear it up for $6/ft. Check around, and see if you can get the best. Tile should be for ever.

Are you really a GC, or are you a guy trying to flip a house, trying to do some price shopping? Either case, I think you're in over your head. Make some phone calls to local people, do some research.

well, you'll probably have to factor in resurfacing the porcelain pan too.
unless it's really a fiberglass pan
