Re: Tar Paper
I thank you for the respectful reply!
I am REALLY in to keeping age/wear/abuse as an indicator of age and prestige. I am a New Yorker and new construction gives me a woodie. But it is the old structures that have been modernized but preserved that bring me "all the way"!!!!! Make it modern-functional WITHOUT removing the aura, history and character. Just my NSHO!

Re: Tar Paper
So sorry that I'm not a professional and posting on here. Sorry that I'm a DIY clogging up your forums.
Just a quick update - We got our first coat of finish on this morning, we managed to get out hands on some Bona Woodline OMU. Also decided on the satin finish. It's still drying, but you will get the idea from the photo. We did sand a lot off of the wood, but there are still small gouges and marks here and there which I don't think any amount of sanding would have taken off. We have also been told that the floors are Douglas Fir, which is a pretty rare thing in Indiana. I'm not sure why they would have chosen it over everything else... especially considering it was a school and Fir isn't the hardest of woods. Thanks for everyone's suggestions and help - it was a huge asset to us and is greatly appreciated

Re: Tar Paper
OOOhhh.... Ahhhhh. Not too shabby. The OLD.. tight grain douglas fir was more stable and "harder" than new pine. Woodline is a pretty decent omu too. Glad it worked out for you.. Let me know if you are in Cleveland anytime soon and want ot make 10 bucks and hour.. I'll put you on the edger..

Re: Tar Paper
Thanks
It looks even better now that the finish is just about dry. There's only one or two places where there's a slight divot from starting/stopping. Otherwise, it looks pretty smooth. We'll be putting the second coat on here in another couple of hours. The Woodline seems like a very nice finish. In our computer room, we had used the MinWax floor finish and it looks awful. It's partially why we wanted a nice professional finish. We're going to be redoing the computer room with the same stuff when we do the hallways. We are planning on heading to Clevelend probably in the next couple of weeks, actually |

Re: Tar Paper
Sounds good to me
I'll send you a PM before we come out there. Some of the work in your album is stunning! I especially love the oddly shaped room. It's amazing what you can do with a little bit of stain and finish! |

Re: Tar Paper
Thank you so much. I really appreciate that. That is actually a rental property of mine. That design is called "Log Cabin". The boards are actually only 1.5inc wide. There are 3 rooms on the first floor and each have a diffrent pattern. In all my years of sanding.. those are the most intresting and technical floors I've seen and they're MINE..
lmk if you have any question on applying your additional coats.

Yea. The 80yr old urine/water stained red oak t&g floor that the h/o wants to go natural on I usually pass on the pics.

Re: Tar Paper
You're lucky to own a place with such unique patterns in the floor. Someone put a lot of work into that house. You would kill to see my family's home in Ontario. The 3rd floor is a ball room with some of the most extravagant wood decorative flooring you could imagine.
As far as the floor goes, Bona says it takes 2 weeks for the finish to cure completely - should we wait that 2 weeks before putting any furniture in there? |

Re: Tar Paper
No Angel..You can replace your furniture in 3-4 days. It actually takes closer to 25 days to FULLY cure. You don't want to place any area rugs or anything that will COVER areas of the floor for 25 days... or else you will see a picture framing effect around the area rug that can't be removed without sanding.
Tables, couches...etc are fine in about 3 days.
