Surprise In The Basement
I was in a customers basement today looking up at the unfinished ceiling discussing installation of suspended or drywall. I noticed that every nail through the upstairs hardwood floor had been bent up with a hammer. The HO said that years ago the installer was called back because of squeeks and that this was his way of fixing it.
Genius or waste of time and energy?

Waste of time and energy. Squeeks are from movement, and like woodmagman said, it is usually the subfloor. I don't see how that would solve that problem, but I could be wrong.
