Question

Suggestions For License Test Content

The California State License Board is preparing to update the C-15(Floorcovering) contractors license quiz. They sent out a letter soliciting the help of current contractors in editing the content of the next test. I responded and was chosen, along with an unknown number of others, to participate.
They will fly me to the state capital, provide me with a car rental and hotel, as well as $150/day for 2 days. I will spend the 2 days as part of a panel discussing the current test content and suggesting changes. Then, over the next year, they will mail the revised tests to each of us for fine-tuning/ editing.
I want to know from those of you in flooring, California or elsewhere, if you have suggestions on things I should address. I know the test is not the same, state to state. However, there have likely been many changes industrywide the last couple years which should become a part of the expected knowledge. Also, I would like to know what is the most important knowledge you think flooring contractors SHOULD have, but too often seem to disregard.

Structure suitability in the case of ceramic and stone tile on wood structures. ie: Deflection maximums, both overall and between the joists.

Proper preparation requirements for all flooring applications.

To start off with.

Yes. I felt moisture/ acclimation were not given adequate coverage when I took the test. However, they made sure to ask me all sorts of questions regarding ladders and trenches! I am still waiting for the job that requires me to draw on that knowledge.

How to properly price a job

Deflection, acclimation, etc... taken care of above

Expansion & contraction issues? 1/4 gap left around wall for HW, CT (no grout), etc...

Best practice for floors - remove existing molding or just slap on 1/4 round / base shoe
